Got excited when i first saw it but then realized this is bull.
It's Way overpriced, way too big and seems to be designed in order to attract more young kids with rich parents.
With that being said, i'd love to have one:wtf: |

@viber....

I don't understand these things;
1, manufacturers at first come up with cool and simple hardware devices to get you away from using a mouse and a screen, and make the creative process simpler.
2, They add more to the idea to the point they start adding things like more buttons, built in screens.
3, By the time they have developed it, it has more buttons and more screens than your computer and the original controller.
4, Then they charge as much as a decent laptop and the original controller.
Why NI? Why?
Wheras Korg, it going back in time to the 70's and making their grove boxes even less integrative.
Korg and NI need to split the difference. |

Yeah that pricing isn't great. But there will still be some people who'd happily spend money on it. |

I would like to try it. |

The full hardware version doesn't really appeal to me, and I have no idea how they can justify the $1K price tag. I've been a Maschine mk1 owner since nearly day one and the Maschine 2 software looks like it has some nice improvements, and not a bad upgrade price. |

Nobody needs that . |

Consensus so far seems to be: too expensive and (a bit) bloated.
It would be interesting though if it could be used stand-alone and not act as sort of dongle.
Maybe this will lower the price of a second hand MK II. Might pick that one up instead. |

Fixed.

It's nothing like a dongle. The hardware is nothing more than a MIDI controller that has been designed specifically for the Maschine software (but can also be used for other s/w or h/w synths). The software operates fine without the hardware (i.e., not dongled) and is registered using the same serial number copy protection that other NI plugins use (NI Control Center). But, you can't use the hardware without the sofware for the same reason that you can't use a Novation ReMote without a soft synth (or h/w synth) - it's simply a MIDI controller and has no method of generating sound on its own.

My mk1's value plummeted into the sub-$200 range after the mk2 was released, but I don't think we'll see the same sort of drop in price of the earlier models with the Studio release.....mostly because I don't think that too many people are going to pay $1000 for a few more knobs and nicer screens, when they can just upgrage their mk1 or mk2's software to v2 for $99.
And, if the pretty colors on the mk2 hardware unit aren't that important to you, save a bunch of $$$ and just buy a secondhand mk1 - they both run the same version of the software. |

Think I exaggerated the part about the dongle a bit.
I understand that it isn't a dongle in the sense of copy protection and nothing more than a midi-controller.
What I was aiming at is that I'd love to see it as a real stand-alone product instead of 'just a midi-controller'. Maschine software integrated, soundcard, audio in- and outputs. Most is in place already: screens, controls. This would negate the use of Maschine on your desktop.
That would mean a heftier price though...
Maybe they're already secretly working on something like this. |
