Word. Not to mention the horrible sound at both those venues.. they are not deserving of Sir Diggers.

Digweed is my ultimate example when people don't understand the experience of listening to a DJ play such a wide variety of music. Not to knock other genres, but a live rock concert is so limited - sure they can pull out some classics if they've been around long enough and play a couple of covers - but the discography is so limited. I never felt inclined to see a band over and over and over and over, no matter how much I loved them.

I have never seen Digweed play like that before. It was like a WHOLE new experience. I have never seen him play that groovy and housey before, and I LOVED it. A number of my friends went to see Bedrock 15 in London and said he played 6 hours of dark, banging techno. And everyone remembers at D36 when he was dropping acid tracks at 5 am and everyone was (literally) going out of their minds. Meanwhile he can still produce beautiful prog trance with Nick Muir no problem.

I love the man.

nice comment indeed, except I cant agree with the quote above, at times.
true for most bands, but I don't think applies to bands great at improv.
best ex. of course, my thing GD, I did, would do stil.
no night alike, not all great , or even good at times, but with a catalog of many 100s, with prob 75-100 tones worked up for tour, repetition boredom was never an issue, ditto genres played.
before your time, sigh.
stil do when called for, 7 Furthurs this spring, and last week and this, 5 Phil and Friends, just now pondering that trip to Philly for tonights, lol
other than that, best Saturday comment so far!

Never had the pleasure of seeing the Grateful Dead, unfortunately. I'm sure it's an entirely different experience. I wasn't speaking to all bands, obvs, just to the general live show format and its limitations.

you're right on that one.
in its way, (good) acid rock is about as far removed from the commercial variety I think you're talking about, as Digweed s sat set is from the stuff served up by those that are reg. derided hereabouts.

way back, when Asia was a current thing, friends did two garden shows. bottom line, 2nd was identical, really fits your comment. I mention that outfit, cause they were a big-act supergroup, and the parts were/are great musicians, not also rans.
all the more disappointing for it (Steve Howe is IMO one of the all time great rock guitarists)

the dead were in an entirely different sphere.

the word journey further up is the comMon thread for me between these two so different genres.

(my pet theory is that the drugs-du-jour go a ways to explaining these very different outcomes. not just idle musings I think, there was a conscious effort back in the 90s (at least where I saw it sometimes) to recreate the acid tests at raves with current sounds (and chemistry). dont think it was ever really successful, cause E isn't like that, but it created its own sphere)

just pondering.
seeing Phil Lesh before Catz n dogz Thursday, time-collapse, lol
c u if there
