Metaplugin is a plugin that loads other plugins. As simple as that. Build your own effect networks using any VST (and AU, if you're on Mac) effect you already have on your harddisk. To get you started, a Mid-Side matrix and a fourband crossover filter are included in the package. This means instant mid-side or multiband compression/distortion/reverb/... you name it.
- Metaplugin supports up to eight individual channels for, e.g. surround or other multichannel purposes.
- Dry/wet ratio can be adjusted for each loaded plugin.
- Full plugin delay compensation is included.
- Negligible additional CPU overhead.
- Synths can also be loaded and played with any MIDI control.
- 2x-oversampling option of the whole signal chain is available.
- 32-bit-plugins can be loaded into the 64-bit version of Metaplugin using JBridge/JBridgeM.
Honestly, we can't think of any reason not to own this baby! Available for Windows (32/64 bit VST and AAX) and Mac OSX (32/64 bit VST/AU/AAX, 10.6 or higher needed). As always, we strongly recommend to check out the demo version (settings not saved, but further fully functional) to see whether it fits your needs!

It looks like a simpler version of Blue Cat's MB-7 (7-band mixer that hosts VSTs, AAX's, AUs), has tempo-sync, stereo width/spread for each band, etc. I can testify that IT works, but no idea about Metaplugin. These sorts of tools are excellent, particularly if you're a PT user and want to use your VSTs in PT11. I'm surprised I haven't seen Metaplugin mentioned over on the DUC/PT forums.
edit: actually, turns out there is a thread on the PT forums. One drawback is that Metaplugin doesn't host VST shells, so that means it can't host Waves. Other people are reporting some stability issues when hosting certain VSTs (e.g., Kontakt) in PT, but overall, the general consensus over there seems to be that it makes a nice subhost at a great price. Since Avid is apparently not allowing any third party VST>AAX wrappers, subhosts like Metadata, VEP, MB-7 is all we have (and, these actually work better than the Fxpansion wrapper ever did anyway). |
