Ait, so this is def not my best gig, but it certainly is up there lol.
I was reminded of it when watching the How it began special on Seinfeld and they're talking about Larry Davids standup routine, where he'd talk for 3 minutes then go eeeh yeah you ignorant s i dont need this .
So I had this gig. My friend went to this architect school literally 4 minutes from my door, and theywould host wedensday or thurday nights, at their illegal pub/club. And I had played a couple of times. Except this time some annoying **** came talking about my music, so the third time he showed his face I got fed up, so I left my headphones on top of the mixer and faced the guy off outside the dj booth lol.
Guy was def bigger than me, and I knew pretty much noone except my friend who booked me. So ends up with me pushing his head with my head kinda ceremonally then telling him and his pals that i didnt need that , then i grabbed my , got out, lit up a cig, and was surrounded by girls before I could exhale, and they were all like "omg suck my dick" or whatever girlskeep saying.. the guy literally had NO girls on his side haha.. and the girls kept me there for 10-15 mins before I got a chance to bail :P (with one of the girls)
now tell me about yur gigs |

| I hate to tell you this Alfi, but if the girls were telling you to suck their dicks, then I'm afraid you weren't in the type of club you think you were ;) :haha: |

A few. They're not really brilliant or anything but they're memories I cherish.

My first gigs abroad were in Finland. Friday in Turku, and Saturday in Helsinki. The Turku gig was great, very small basement, but a really cool setting playing under the foundations of a building. Great vibe.
The next day off to Helsinki to play in a church transformed into a club. During my set I had to turn off the music. The fire alarm went off. Firetrucks came and cleared the venue and then noticed it was a false alarm. The party could go on but the place was deserted :D. Getting anyone to move was a horror.
Also this Finnish girl kept asking me te play some Britney Spears (on a trance night). She insisted I talked Finnish to her, which I can't. I kindly refused and told her I don't have that kind of music and it is a trance night. Third time she asked me she flipped her finger on me for not fulfilling her request. I was baffled :D.
After that we went to Rose Garden. I met a regular visitor there ho apparently was Dutch. He talked me in saying I was a famous deejay from Holland. I got in free as well as the only girl that was with us. The other guys had to pay a different entry fee per person, it just didn't make sense :D.

Got 2 gigs in Serbia managed by a fellow TA and now a close friend. I sent him a PM because he had a nice avatar. We started talking and he asked if I was keen to come over for a weekend to do some gigs.
First gig on Friday was 200km away from Belgrade. We were supposed to go there by train. We rushed into a cab to catch it. We ran the last 500m as there was a traffic jam, but it did not pan out. The train left 20 minutes early, and we were late.
We had to take the bus, and arrived at our destination 5 hours later, on the scheduled time. Had dinner and were picked up by the local promoter. It was another hour to the venue. Had my gig, tons of fun and a great response from the audience. 5am we boarded our train back to Belgrade. It was another 5hr30 min ride back. my promoter/friend had to go to university to do an exam as I went to the apartment for some sleep (he passed the exam).
That night we had a gig in Belgrade. The evening started out nice (even though I felt like ). After turning off the wrong turntable at some point (thus no music anymore) the evening took off. Everybody was cheering :). Some dude came up to me: (russian english accent) "I ghave lasar". I responded with a polite "ok". Half an our later he came barging into the club with his laser (see picture). He 'animated' the patterns by moving the laser unit by hand :D.

After the club was starting to get emptier, out of nowhere a considerable group of people high on drugs came in. I spent the time playing deephouse back 2 back with my promoters until 6:30 (just after sunrise). It was magical. By that time I had to leave for the airport and go back home.
This weekend also was the start of a great friendship with some amazing people :) and it wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for TA.

Another gig in Serbia, same guys as in 2009 :). We got really drunk (especially me) a few days before the gig. The place where we got drunk however was an illegal bar. They had a camera aimed at their door. Every hour or so police would come and knock on the door. Everybody went silent inside and started to giggle. You could see te cops standing in front of the door on a big screen TV inside. After 3 minutes (without opening the door) they left. Every time. Quite funny.
Anyway, on our way to drunkness I started talking with a girl who worked there. She was really cute and we convinced her to come to my gig in a few days.
I spent the next 2 days in bed sobering up. I was a bloody mess. That night we had the gig. It was tons of fun again and the girl from the bar actually came to say hi. Problem was I didn't recognise her :D. As soon as she noticed she walked away, pissed off haha.
Then after this night we left the building with police all over the place. I think it was 2 - but could have been 1 - person that was injured. Shot in the kneecap. Quite an odd incident. But all in all it didn't ruin the high I was on. Great times :). |

Playing a magical, unforgettable 4 a.m. - 6 a.m. slot on the final day of a week of debauchery on Boracay Island in the Philippines. An Ati-atihan band appeared out of nowhere halfway through my set and drove the energy through the roof. Closed with this, which had just come out, as the sun was coming up over the sea:

nah, but really close actually. was a private event at the bar in arkitekthøyskolen :P
Ive played Hausmania, though it was outside. We got shut down in
Torshovparken, so we gathered what we could of equipment and rocked the night away under the ramp up to the skate hall. Was pretty epic. I think it was about 7 or 8 in the morning before the cops came and shut us down again, but we were all out of gas in the aggregate and all out of speed, so the music was already off when they rolled up :P |

FLTA beach bash 2006, I never felt so connected to the crowd than any other gig I ever had. I was djing back to back with a good close friend. Each transition the crowd went in Ahh. They know their tunes and were up to game. I had a great time and wish i could do it again.
2005 opening up for JES
I train wrecked on numark dual cd players and spun underground hard style and the crowd somehow digged it. I got JES attention some how and she later added on my space when it was popular. Had a great time. |

Great Stories guys, the best ones always seem to be the most random encounters.
@ST - I love that some random guys turns up with a laser.
@PT - That track has some really special memories for me and even a very recent one from just a few weeks ago. I was at a House Party in the Hollywood Hills and the hired Dj's were decent, playing house and deep house, but it wasn't quite enough to get the party in full swing. There was one point at about 3am I go up the DJ (and I can see that look on his face "Oh great, here's another twat asking for Timberlake/Katy Perry etc" and I ask him if he's got Knight of the Jaguar.
He looks at me with utter surprise, big grin and "I think I might". I got back to mingle and not 30 seconds later I hear the first few bars start transitioning in, and the ing party explodes and for about the next hour the place is nothing short of a rave.
AS I'm leaving around 4:30pm the DJ comes up and thanks me for the suggestion. First time I've ever DJ'd by proxy lol. |
