Hey!

whats up everybody? my name is Christopher, Im 24. just wanted to write a post here introducing myself and maybe some people can relate to my "musical journey" so to speak. I first discovered electronic music in the mid 2000's but really did not into it seriously until I found out through random online research about the UK hard house music movement (I am from USA). It's really strange that I started with that stuff now that I look back on it because that music is super rare in the US especially so many years after its peak around 2000. Yet I am very grateful that I found out about that style. What really influenced me the most was Global Underground Tony De Vit Tokyo. It had such a heavy uplifting global sound. I was raised on rock and gangsta rap so this was f**king mind blowing sound. I heard that and said "I want to be a DJ" Tony was ahead of his time, who knows what tracks he would have came up with today. RIP :(

I got to into Hard House a bit more but realized tony's tokyo mix had a different style (What I later found to be considered hard trance) it focused more on melody and flow not just banging club room bass and crazy samples. So I look through my music collection for similar tracks and Paul Oakenfold constantly was showing up, i had been listening to his music for years but never dove deeper than his top hits like "fasterkil cat". I did not know anything about Trance. I just knew I loved it. It had the same power and energy as hard house but it was more chill, it flowed effortlessly, and sounded beautiful. It was everything I loved. So I downloaded his perfecto podcast, and many albums of his. At the same I was using the podcast to Run around the park to, I would go as far to say that Oakenfold's music really inspired me to get healthy. Later I discovered. Tiesto and his amazing creations like "flight 643" Also lots of other dj's like Sandra Collins & Ben Gold.

So I slowly start getting more and more into electro house around that time. Porter Robinson and stuff like that. Never really got into djing trance as I kept Genre hopping and was never produced my own music because I was too preoccupied with other things in life. Trance just kinda faded away, just played the ASOT podcast for running. Also did see Tiesto live during his college invasion tour with Porter. I was fully aware trance was loosing its ground, at least in the United States but didnt really care. Rarely listening to it after that concert ,especially after I stopped listening to electro altogether and eventually got into old school and yes, deep house . I really had a respect for house music and still do but eventually it just got kind of kind of boring , and repeating as most producing it seemed to focus more on drum sounds than melodies and the bigger picture. Than it became super mainstream (not a bad thing) in 2012, and 2013 with acts like disclosure. It kind of got of trendy and now it seemed very inorganic and copy paste. I realized that respecting the oldschool 90s sounds are great and all but not to the point when the music does not evolve. I began to cringe when listing to song and hearing tracks so similar with slightly different sounds here and there and a sample of a guy saying "HOUSE" right before the beat dropped. I mean I still love house music don't get me wrong but nothing like I did.

After getting bored with the retro sound of deep house I started to be like "whats next" :conf: I did a lot of music research on the internet and I really could not rally get into any genre beyond a song or two. Than I found it. The video that changed my life. It was Armin live at Ultra Europe 2013. Everything about it was perfect. Some heavier more progressive house type tracks here and there but that only added to my love of trance, it has indeed become more complex and was sounding just a tad bit closer to the hard house I used to listen to so long ago, yet it was still the trance that made me feel so good. I realized that all those years I had been searching for the best thing in electronic music when I found it at the start. Ultra was actually an emotional experience for me, I almost cried watching it (ok i did maybe for 2 seconds). To see everyone together from around the world in one place with one common feeling no matter what background or language --euphoria. What really got to me was how connected and soulful Armin looked when he dj'ed. I have NEVER seen a DJ put so much heart into the music like he did. I will be honest he is my hero and I just found that out after so many years. I look foward to seeing him wherever I am for his next Armin Only tour.

Now that I found my path I hope to produce my own top quality trance music/ dj and give something back because its what I believe in. I don't care if its not the current trend or whatever its a part of who I am today. It inspired me so much in life and always get kept me going even If I did not keep up with it. You can always come back to trance! :) :) Really hyped to find this forum and see the trance community in the USA and around the world still believes in this music with me.

...Sorry this post is so ridiculously long and grammatically incorrect when i first clicked new topic i thought I would just write a paragraph. Oh and I really think everyone should check out that Tony De Vit : Tokyo mix CD if you have not already. Its kinda like 1998 rave stuff but if you really listen with an open mind I think you will thank me. I will leave you all with one of my favorite trance songs ever.

Peace & Love

stfu noob

back in the day they didn't even call it molly.
srussell0018
Erm, yes they did.

You're only 3 years older than me so cut the "back in the day" rubbish like you're some sort of venerable scene veteran.

Molly has always been a slang term for MDMA. Just like E or X was slang for ecstacy. It's only recently that "Molly" very rarely refers to MDMA, but rather some other sort of similar (or not similar) substance that's passed off as MDMA.
