Recommend me some speakers for small apartment parties

Hey guys. As you may have seen in my other thread, I recently picked up a DDJ-Wego to streamline my mobile setup for informal apartment/house parties at friends' places. I've got my Behringer Truths for at-home monitoring as well as two big JBL Eons for larger setups.

Now I'm looking for something small and compact for 1 br apartments that I can easily transport and will put out clear sound a little oomph. I fully realize that without a sub it's not going to be huge bass, but I'm also looking to work within the parameters of a condo environment where I can't totally blast out the neighbors.

Do you guys have any recommendations? My dad has a pair of Bose Companion 20s that I might test out to see if that will do it, but looking for additional options.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Will get you thrown out though. Maybe some active 8" solutions and hang on the wall.

Thanks for the response. Would really be no larger than 1000 sq ft so pretty tight space.

Companion 20's aren't very good. For not much more you can get companion 3s or 5's and I'd say they sound about 50% or more better. Companion 20's sound like good computer speakers, 3s or 5s sound clearer than most people's loungeroom stereos. I'd highly recommend them for the 200(second hand)-400(around about that new) pricerange. Been using my set for 5+ years. You can always turn down the base on the knob (or position them so that they're not against a wall, as that echoes base) if you need to lower base. Any electronic music without a sub will sound horrible (bass isn't just about it's volume).

Hey man! If I were you, I'd go with some cheap studio monitors. Preferably with a 6 or 8 inch element. You would rather want to have to play a full sound at half volume, than blast clipped sound at maximum vol, as one is doomed to do with an undersized system.

I have a couple of Mackie MR8mk2's. It's a little poor in the mid section, but for 400 you're doing way better than some multimedia speakers for desktops or whatever that companion stuff is.
I've used these on smaller parties. Works as a charm.
I think a lot of the KRK's has a.. cardboardy sound? But could work too, and the yellow could kinda look cool.
Just look for studio monitors in your price range.
