Lately, and maybe it's because I've now met two, I've noticed that some people have this certain characteristic that annoys me...I'm not easily annoyed but this one thing they do I just wish they didn't. At least, not to me. The characteristic is one of a desire to let other people know blatantly that you 'don't care about offensive things' or are 'open to cool, mature things like obscenities or dirty humor'. My problem is, I like these topics as much as the standard person does but I don't necessarily blatantly point out this fact so that others approve of me and don't think I am a 'prude' or some other trite description of those easily offended. Most people incorrectly label others as being this just to make themselves feel better, to single out the other person so they themselves don't feel on the spot if they're ever offended by something (I think everyone has a right to feel offended by something sometimes, without deserving to be labeled as some sort of anti-human who denies certain natural facts, like things related to sex or drugs or something). Anyhow, I guess I've been a bit incoherent...what I meant to ask was, do you know anyone like this? If so, why do people do it? Here's an example: I watch some movie with my friend, it has an incredibly horrible obscene joke, I think it's hilarious but my own personal way of expressing my appreciation (and my friend knows I do it this way) is an excited response, like loud laughter or a gasp of mock surprise or something, rather than just sitting back and accepting it without an emotional change on the surface. Then my friend goes, 'I TOLD you this movie was going to be gross. Is it too much for you?' or something, and this just ruins the joke because they're sort of imposing on my movie-watching, like telling me how I'm supposed to react. What is the most annoying about this is the fact that they're just advertising the fact that they believe they can 'take' harsh or gross information in, and I'm somehow younger or less able just because I react to it more visibly and show emotion. My friend was a guy, if that helps you pinpoint what I'm talking about. Not to be sexist or anything. I'm sure people are the same for both genders, but in my limited experience with the topic I'm talking about (I said I only know two such people) I have a very shaky basis for trying to make any generalizations about it, since so few people are involved. Anyhow, yeah, reactions? Similar experiences with any of you? Sorry to babble on and on, I suppose I'm just trying to put off doing my Latin homework, which is due in 35 minutes. And this is what I came up with...

edit: k, i read it twice, i think i follow... u dont like people singling u off when u laugh @ dirty jokes and the reaction they want from u is to just watch it and be more mature?

Yeah basically...people who are just very loud about the fact that they enjoy things like dirty humor, who advertise that. Either because they really are proud, or because they're insecure about the fact that stuff does offend them and want everyone else to know that they aren't wimps. Kind of like people who act loudly homophobic...either they are literally scared of gay people (not usually the case) or (most commonly) they just want to make sure other people think they themselves are NOT gay, for whatever reason...(I'm not justifying this, it's an awful thing to do, just trying to give another example)
