Ah yea, review time! Lol.
I’m going to keep this one short, since I’m in a rush to catch a bus down to Miami. I got to HPC around 9 – super early – because the expectation was that Three would start at 10. Well, after watching the Gators beat FSU by a last-minute free throw, I walked into the big room at about that time and noticed Three standing by the bar. I gave him a few minutes and then I approached and asked why he wasn’t playing already. “Sound guy is late.” Ah, ok. Cool. This brief exchange was pleasant and my first impression was that he’s super humble. I like it.
At about 11, I walked toward the booth and asked the guy ing around with the equipment if he was the sound guy. “Yea, I’m the guy. Sorry, I’m from out of town. You guys did the sound check already, though, right?”
"Ugh, I don't know man, I'm just a fan."
A few minutes later things finally kicked off. I think Three played for about 45 minutes before Sasha came on. I loved his track selection, but I met some people later in the night that weren’t so impressed. I guess that goes back to it all being subjective. Overall, I thought he did a good job opening up. I mean, his mixing wasn't stellar but some of those tracks had me going.
I could tell Three was getting the decks ready for Sasha, so I bobbed and weaved my way through the crowd to grab another Corona. As I did so, I ran into Sasha in his blue track jacket walking toward the booth. I gave him a pat and rushed to get my beer and get back to my spot in the front near the booth.
Being that this was my first time seeing Sasha, I had huge expectations. I thought he played great in the first hour (12-1), but after that he started to taper off. He played some tracks that had me thinking he was about to kick it into fifth gear and ing go off - never really happened, though. At about 145 or so, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Eric Volta’s Love Your Illusion. I had just recently discovered this track on here and to hear it live was great.
Once 2 rolled around, it started getting ugly. I’m sorry, but Three and Sasha playing together was like two drunk frat brothers ing around on the decks. I have a suspicion they really weren’t taking it seriously and it got to me. I mean, I was expecting the last hour to ing take off – it didn’t. It was filled with showboating that played to the crowd of college kids, but not the enthusiasts.
Oh, and speaking of the crowd, it was soooooo noticeable at how many people didn’t know who the Sasha was. One guy even came up and asked me, “Hey man, who’s the guy in the booth, someone famous or something?”
I looked, shook my head, and continued on in my two-step.
Then again, I ran into some super cool people who knew exactly who he was and were studying his set as much as I was.
Overall, I had fun night even though it was a bit of a let down. Tampa isn’t ready lol.
Alirght guys, time to get the on this bus. See you in Miami! |

Yeah he was so-so last year at Kennedy too. Three has never ever impressed me, guy has no idea how to build a set -- always sounds like he's just playing tracks he likes. That's not DJing. Have a great time in Miami man...Capriati/Dubfire at Space is going to be a different level of amazing.
Sasha is great if you catch him at the right gig. He doesn't "bring" it for like HPC, which is unfortunate. He's one of those self-important dudes IMO, if it's not Ibiza or Miami or NYC or Montreal, etc he doesn't give a . You have to remember though, if the "crowd of college kids" was eating it up, then they were doing their job. The party is always what matters most. At a good party, the DJ is no more important than the rest of the elements that make up the night. |

I think it's just a lame excuse people make up for him, that he's not in a cool city so he just played average. |

eh, unfortunately it's pretty true lol.
he rocked output silly last weekend. it was all die-hard sasha fans and most of us were blown away.
he is also a partyer so yep, he gets ed up and sloppy on the decks sometimes. he's very hit or miss, unfortunately, because when he is on.. it's unbeatable.
the main review was SUCH a typical sasha party review it's not even funny hahah.. 9/10 reviews from around the country would probably be the same. |

| Full review tomorrow... These reviews are freaking retarded. Sasha brought it early and brought it late. Tracklist was everything anyone could ask for that's into deep, psychedelic house. Til mañana... |

There's only one review. And calm down. Calling someone's review "retarded" because you don't agree with it is over the top. Part of the reason this place is so dead to begin with.
But yes, an opposing review would be interesting to read. I wasn't there so I can't give my own review. Still thought his set at Kennedy last year was weak as . You have to bring it in Tampa since you can only play until 3 am. His last year was really mild considering the short set length. |

I'll be the first to admit that I'm no expert, but that doesn't mean my observations and thoughts don't count. I mean, if my review is that typical of a Sasha show as was mentioned, then I don't see how it's that far off from what went down. I don't know, maybe my expectations were too high or I expected something different.
Or maybe I'm just retarded and clueless, huh?
And I never said it was a bad show; it definitely had its moments. But there were definitely some holes in it and the last 45 minutes or so weren't my cup of tea once they started going B2B. Anyways, I don't know why I'm responding to someone who doesn't have the common courtesy to question what I wrote in a mature manner, so I'll leave it at that. |

Your review didn't surprise me. Been to more than one Sasha show that fits your review. Maybe I don't want to hear "psychedelic" house when I'm at a show. At least not hours of it. That's ing weird. You go to clubs to dance and have a good time. What's with all this ing weirdo hipster music taking over? that .
To be fair, as stated earlier, he's really dope when he's on. Straight banging progressive house base and then he starts mixing in really nasty tech sounds, just layering tracks the whole night. Sets a great vibe. He needs the right crowd and at least 4 hours to do this though. If you can see him during WMC at a good venue, jump on it. Won't be disappointed. Definitely the most hot/cold DJ that I'm familiar with. |
