| Honestly, I lived through these days, and I'd walk off the dancefloor if this stuff came on. I'm all for appreciating it as a look back, but I'll take modern sounds over these any day. Assuming the tunes in question aren't part of the overblown movement to remake the 90's. |

Agreed.
I love looking back, and seeing how the scene evolves and changes though. Theres no denying that the Hacienda and obviously Diggers were and are icons of our scene. |

| Completely agreed, it wasn't a knock on Digweed at all. I used to trek to NYC to see him and Sasha at Twilo regularly. I was just commenting on what I see as a widespread over emphasis on the 90's sound. I was there in the 90's, the scene was better, but the music is way better now imo. |

What are you guys talking about ... 90s was the most seminal, most talented decade in electronic music history. Music peaked in the 90s, music sales peaked. People bought records and CDs, exchanged ideas and there were countless of EDM genres that don't exist today. Everything changed with Napster around 2000. Nowadays people just download music and don't care about the music history or talent. Talented bedroom producers can no longer make a living on making albums and have to be DJ's and revert to top 40 stuff. Back in the day there were countless small producers who make a good living making records that were zealously purchased by music enthusiasts all over the world.
As a DJ, I see this. Everyone listens to the same radio , which is recycled, repeated and oversampled stuff from the previous years. Mainstream music ot today stole the basic common denominator of EDM - the beat, the punchy basslines and introduced the cheesy vocals that are punctuated with constant tempo changes to make it sound so cool.
90s was the best decade in electronic music, because people cared about music back then. Today, music is just a passing fad and looking back people will no reflect on it. Today, music is used to pass the time, to kill the boredom while walking to a bus stop. On the other hand, today there are many fans who still buy, collect and discuss the 80s and 90s music and listen to it every day. These days people who mostly buy CDs and vinyl are DJs and old-school music enthusiasts. Back then, kids in high school bragged about buying records and CDs. Today's generation is armed with iPads/iPhones/etc and poor quality MP3s.
Hacienda was a legendary club that many of my British friends are very fond of. Italian house of 1988-1993 was the pivotal sound of that era, and any and all those piano riffs are a reflection to that.
Labels such as MLIU (My Love Is Underground) is just a testament to how glorious the 90s were. Progressive music has indeed evolved since then, in part because early progressive scene was a derivative of house music and not trance music.
Today's deep house is not much different than what it was 20 years ago in Italy. Here's The Anixus, for example - their 1993 EP:
