Are you a CD1 or CD2 person?

Perhaps this discussion isn't as relevant now as it might have been in the mix comp heyday but I'm still interested to know: are you a CD1 or CD2 person?
I find that with almost every mix comp, I prefer CD1. It's generally where all the melody and experimentation happens, particularly in the Balance series. TPOD is also an excellent example of a killer CD1 |

No, I would say most haven't noticed a significant difference in liking cd1 over cd2 like you have.
I'm pretty sure I have thought about this too in the late 90's when I bought many cd's. I can say that I'm not a cd3 guy. Cd3 often was a mix version of a selection of tracks of cd1 and cd2 like in the Trance Nation series of Edel (not Ferry Corsten's). |

kind of an invalid question - like there are set parameters or something, but there is usually a clear divide between disc 1 and 2, and that is a good thing. two flavours.
it varies obviously. disc 2 on ferry corstens TN series was actually the 'experimental' one, where the first disc was the more commercial.
generally though i'd be a cd 2 person - the harder, more club-edged one.
sometimes cd 1 can piss me off if it is too pretentious or slow - but sometimes they can really shine - with amazing atmospheres, or nice chunky beats and intricate percussion.
a lot of the renaissance cd's really excel as a package. just got dave seaman's masters series 7 the other day, even though i've had the mp3's for years... outstanding mix, and beautiful packaging - that's something that was really diminished these days. |

I get where the op is coming from. I immediately thought of the late 90s and the days when we bought mixed cds, and that was our only real source of mixes.
and to answer the question, i am a cd2 guy. Global Underground 6 cd2, global underground 9 cd2, global underground 13 cd2.
That being said cd1 of northern exposure is better than cd2 imo. |
