Indeed, this was a perfect way to start my morning. A cold and hazy mix to get my brain moving. A few thoughts:
Textural Being is a badass artist. The bassline in Nitrogen Music is great, and the two tracks you played later were beautiful.
Your mixing and flow was flawless. In no time at all the mix was already over. I had gotten lost in the music.
Dub techno doesn't always seem to really go anywhere imo. But you had a variety of different moods and feelings in this set, so kudos for that. You made it quite enjoyable.
Good stuff :) |

Been listening to this while working on a report, transferring it to my mp3-player now. Also giving it a second listen while I'm working.
Top notch stuff, Jack. Looking forward to my walk/commute to the uni in a few hours :) |

So I took a listen...
It's a bright, sunny day outside. We're deep into autumn now, but being that I live on the West Coast of Canada, still brisk in temperature rather than cold-cold, and lovely colours of leafy trees dot the streets. In short, the worst possible weather to enjoy dub techno with. Fortunately, I've been suffering from the SADs lately, so my mood was good to go regardless.
Not sure what I can comment on that wouldn't be brought up in most dub techno mixes. It's all about the atmosphere and headspace the music creates, and wearing Sennheiser 650s coupled with all the other headphone gear I love namedropping, a very good headspace was created indeed. I'm assuming these are mostly recent tracks, but there were quite a few in the middle where it sounded like something straight out of early '90s ambient techno and dub (tho' not ambient dub). Some of it even sounded more like prog house than anything techno related, but maybe there's some vein of dub techno that likes a bit of bump'n'funk in its groove.
Good stuff, all said. |

| my bio clock is often stuck at 8.30am, so this sounds like the right mix for me. |

Yeah, dub techno doesn't tend to develop or have much structure, so I realised early on that playing too many similar tracks together resulted in extremely boring and repetitive stretches, and it was necessary to create the structure myself by playing varied tracks.
Glad you guys are enjoying it anyway - I'm very pleased with how this has turned out so it's good to see plenty of people tuning in. |

So I did give this a listen. I did like the mixing and track selection although I thought except for the last track it was still very much so a classic dub techno mix. Dub chords, hiss, dubby bass, all check. Most of these tracks would have worked in a more 'wintery' style mix as well. However it seems like you used a lot of artists from the 'netlabel sphere' whereas my mix had mostly more established producers so there probably is a difference between 'old school' and 'new school' dub techno. In end I guess I feel similiar as to how you feel about my mix, I wouldn't listen to most of the tracks individually but it made for a well constructed and pleasent background listen and that's probably the most you can do with a mix made purely of dubtechno anyways.
Good idea to include the Anton Zap tracks by the way, absolutely fantastic record. |

| Interesting contrast between Sykonee saying some tracks don't sound "like anything techno" and you saying it's all very standard material. I personally think the truth lies somewhere in the middle! |

| Well this is getting bucketloads of plays from somewhere or other - it's about to hit 100 inside a week. I'd trade them all in for a few kind words from you guys though. |

| I always thought of Captain Storm as more of a deep house kinda track, in a way. I listened to 1/2 of this so far, I'll reserve my full comments until I've had a full listen. Haven't been home much and no mp3 player atm (that desperately needs to change). |
