I'm a tadd curious what others think about the future of electronic music.. where it's going..
I believe there is a very real possibility of electronic music, now being conveniently labeled as EDM in some circles, becoming synonymous with a new era of pop music. When I write that, I take into account the listening xperience. For me, the most authentic way to hear a piece of music that is not electronic-based, would be to hear it live. Such is not necessarily the case however with "3DM."
The fact that most music is listened to on electronic devices perhaps predestined it for mainstream stardom.
Post some people(s)/artist(s)/release(s) you consider as pioneering in electronic music. |

Not exactly understanding where you are going with this bud but will try and answer what i think you are asking. EDM is convenient label to call modern dance music that is electronic music. I really dont mind the label as much as others do. I think it basically says describes electronic music that is pop music.
Also, dance music has become very commercial lately but even more than 10 years ago it was still quite popular in europe and had lots of commercial success. to me the rise of its commercialization has more to do with the fact that its become commercial in the united states. its basically a repeat of the euro pop from the 90s this time occurring in the united states and countries that dance music used to be underground in.
as for true pioneers in electronic music, too many to list but none of this would be possible without kraftwerk as far as im concerned. but there was electronic music even before them! |

EDM is pop music.
It's like saying Kenny G. is Jazz - he isn't. |

I happen to believe in a more holistic approach when it comes to health, but let's try and stay on topic. |

Hi Paul.
Well, the future of electronic music can be considered open-ended at this point in time. I'm not necessarily going anywhere with it, but the post is intended more as part of an open-ended contemplation for you.
I appreciate your reference to Kraftwerk. :) |

The future of everything is open-ended.
Any further generalisations and non-sequitur posts?

Ah, so you're, as the kids say these days, 'talking '?
Here's some Neil Landstrumm. He doesn't care about the future of EDM, either.

That's an extremely bold statement, and generalization for you to make.
"non-sequitur posts" ..no comment.
I posted my thoughts on the subject, the rest of the thread is for you to go with it where you will.
Again, let's try and stay on topic. |

Again, what was the topic?
"Rave>>Techno>>EDM>>?" is some arbitrary progression you've concocted in your own head, and now you're asking for others to opine on it.
On topic, your topic is full of hooey. |

Pivot,
To be as clear as possible, I'm not asking anything of you in this thread. If you have positive things to add again, then do.
Contemplating the future is a reasonable thing to do. |

Yes, yes you are. You just don't like the answer you're receiving. Tough titties for you.

Reasonble, but not terribly useful. Unless you're a sci-fi writer, I suppose. I find I'm much happier when my mind is firmly in the present moment, but that's just me.
Contemplating the future of EDM isn't terribly difficult. Like all cycles of mass-marketed, big on hype, low on substance, highly disposable music, it's a bubble that's eventually going to burst. The masses of people who pay hundreds of dollars to attend EDM festivals will grow up and/or move on to the next big, disposable thing, and what remains of the current pop phenomenom will end up in whatever constitutes the future's version of the $1.99 bin at your local gas station/convenience store.
The music in its heartfelt, soulful form will continue to be produced and enjoyed by those who appreciate such qualities, just as a certain segment of today's population still enjoys Swing or Bebop. |

Again Pivot, to be as clear as possible, I'm not asking anything of you in this thread. It is my thread.
I do appreciate your thoughts on the music.
Also, by taking the time to contemplate the future, your future that is, you might find that the present times in that future are even more rewarding than you can imagine in this place in time. |
