I've just deleted two pages worth of spambot threads... only to find out there's more :(

and that's just the COR, check out some of the other forums, pages and pages of spam (party info/pics for example)
I have lost count of how many bans / deletions I have done over the last 4 days, I reckon between us it has to be over 500 by now. |

A weird thing happened to me once.
I set up a (still inactive) forum in a domain I've got, and spambots murdered, pillaged, and raped all boards they could find. Because there wasn't anyone using it, I just ignored it - until the server provider warned me it was slowing down the whole system. They thrived until I decided to just delete everything.
Fast forward a couple of weeks, a pet shop from the UK sent me an e-mail saying Google was about to punish them for the spam found in my website. They politely asked me to take the links down (I had done it anyway) and thanked me for my "interest".
I was gobsmacked when I read it: If they're not the ones who created their own bots, who did? A rival business? And what for? Doesn't seem like a smart move if it's going to give the other business more visibility for a while :/ |
