I never can understand why Elektron a) make good products that they deliberately cripple in some way and b) make great products that are fiddly to use and time consuming to learn. |

They probably looked at the Dave Smith business model. |

Elektron should have looked at their pricing model, too. $1800 MSRP for a 4-voice desktop module is going to make it tough to compete with a Mopho X4. It does look/sound pretty tasty, though. |

It has D/A A/D conversion meaning its totally integrated via usb!
 :D |

Well for a start I think it offers a lot more in terms of sequencing, effects and other such frills, but I'm not sure that's what most people want.
I think the point you make is valid, and they could have offered the keyboard version with just the synth engine and no sequencing etc for a much lower price. |

Yeah, I have exactly no use for the sequencer. |

its the sequencer which is making elektron gear interesting. its almost the only hardware out there today that allows you to ditch the computer all together, except these ty korg and yamaha groove boxes. without the sequencer you could just as well just use VSTs. the analog sound isnt a point on its own, that can be done with most softsynths today. its the possibility to make techno without a computer which makes it interesting. i doubt id be able to use it though, i hate menu diving. |
