Do I need a mixer or audio interface?

| Buying some pro studio monitors for the first time ever to connect to my laptop. Do I need any kind of audio interface to act as an intermediary between my laptop and the monitors? |

| the included audio interface in computers sux, so therefore you should get external ones. the simples solution would be a simple (yet expensive) usb dac/soundcard like RME FireFace UC or something, though depends on your monitors. If you REALLY have some Pro ones (5000USD and up) you might want to consider better dacs too which somehow manage to avoid the USB interface as it introduced jitter to the sound (digital ugliness). one way is optical. other ways are PCI solutions. whatever you do just be sure to not think that your new Pro monitors will sound good directly from your computers minijack because it will suck. |
