is it lame to have same song (different mix) twice in a set?

Your opinion...
oDrori
Mmmm I can't vote... It depends how different the tracks are from each other, like, if you play in the same set

Blank & Jones - Desire (Original) & Blank & Jones - Desire (Bart Claessen) or Lasgo - Alone (extended) & Lasgo - Alone (shog) [Hey that was just an example y'all ;)], then I'm against it, unless it's a really long set or something.

But if you put Cosmic Gate - The Truth (Original) and The Truth (Ferry Corsten) or Svenson & Gielen - Twisted (Energy, Original) and Svenson & Gielen - Twisted (Jacob and Manendez) then there's barely a connection between them so no problems with me, it's like asking me if I'm against or not playing simply the same track.

Well you'd definitely usually want to avoid this. But I agree with oDrori that if the remix is very unique it might be ok.

For the most part, yes.

Just check out the playlists of some of the best DJs. Quite often, two mixes of the same song are put in. I do the same when i burn my mix CDs, there are often 2 mixes there. Again, as long as the mixes are sufficiently different, and they sound good, thats all that matters.

Different mixes of the same track in a set is ok... as long as they sound very different. I don't want to be listening to a set and be thinkin DAMN IVE ALREADY HEARD THIS!! But if the two mixes sound completely different, like the Original and Fridge mixes of Taucher - Pictures of a Gallery, then it's cool with me. Not do the two versions sound different and have completely different build-ups, they are much different stylistically. I once recorded a set where I played these two mixes BACK TO BACK... my friends just thought I had done a really superb job blending the vocals (opera-style singing) from one song to the next and making it sound awesome - they had no clue it was two different versions of the same track. It also worked as a great transition from melodic trance (Fridge Remix) into some more hard-hitting stuff (Original). :) On the other hand, I once heard a set by Paul Oakenfold (I think it was from Home @ Space in Ibiza) where he played two different mixes of the same track... by the time I heard the second one it was kinda old. (Sorry I have no clue what the track was) So, in some situations it can work, but most of the time it sounds lame. Anyways, thats my two cents :D

As long as the mixes are different and it sounds good..why not?
DJ_Elyot

If it fits the mood of the set, go for it.
If its Darude, don't.
