No, it's a hardware synth, pretty powerful one at that, that works in standalone mode, but can also integrate with your DAW via a dedicated plugin, also works as an audio card, a completely programmable MIDI controller, a hardware effects unit, and comes with arguably the nicest (Fatar) keybed available for a synth. Soundwise, sure, lots of soft synths get the job done, so if you don't need or want to invest in something that does what the Virus TI does, you don't need to. |

| If you want 'that' sound, then there's still no plugin that touches the virus. I tried to find it and failed :p |

oh ok, that makes more sense:)
Just one more noob question: how is it better than say a Nord Lead 3? |

The Virus isn't better, just different and with more features. The NL3 doesn't have the DAW integration, or the audio card, has fewer parts, etc., but was also cheaper. That said, I would argue that, feature-for-feature, the one area when the Virus is better is the keybed. The keybed on the Virus Polar and keyboard models are far superior to the ones on the Nords - it's pretty annoying that Clavia makes such a great synth, then slaps a cheap-ass keybed on it. Regardless, the Nord Rack 3 is still one of my favorite hardware synths to this day. |

| I've said this before and I'll say it again, save your money and buy something else, no need for a virus. |

Oh wow - really? You said it before? How many times did you say it? Where did you say it? Can you post a link? Is it true that the more times you say it, the truthier it gets?
I think I speak for everybody on this forum when I say thank you so much, guy on internet, for telling us (at least twice) that we don't "need" a Virus. We had no idea.
