I've seen Danny Howells four times now, and I can assure you that he ALWAYS delivers. His new balance mix is incredible and he is one of the most approachable DJ's ive ever met. Nothing but good things to say about this dude.
Unfortunately, im unemployed right now, and the budget is tight, so Ill have to pass, but trust me when I say that this is the best party happening in Toronto this Saturday. |

What a great night!
My first time to Toika - the perfect venue to see Danny. I got there around 12:30 and as luck would have it he was entering the club just as I was. We exchanged a few words and I wished him luck for the night. He's totally easy going, relaxed, and comfortable talking to his fans - a real class act. They say never meet your heroes...they weren’t talking about Danny Howells.
I'd say there were about 200 people in the whole club. The crowd was terrific. Everyone seemed to know each other and there was nothing but smiles and good vibes all around. Intimate is/was the perfect way to describe the feeling.
Danny was hanging out in the booth from the time he entered the club to when he took to the decks. I was really anticipating the transition between the DJ's, and what started off as something smooth ended badly. His transitional track that was being mixed suddenly cut off. Then it begin playing (midway into itself), stopped again for a brief moment (as if Danny wanted to restart the track), but then it began playing midway into itself again. :conf: :conf: :conf:
After that hiccup there was no looking back. The 3rd or 4th track into Danny's mix was pure melodic, progressive, layering bliss. I'd kill for a video or ID if anyone has one. He continued a steady build for the first hour or so and then began really starting to play hard. Around 3 AM, I felt if I had just walked into the club I'd have no idea Danny Howells was mixing. Don't get me wrong, the tunes were absolute bangers but it was really unexpected. I should note I wasn't able to ID any tracks I heard and was completely contempt with going with the flow of the mix.
Beat matching was flawless and mixes were generally smooth. He had some really interesting transitions which were signs of a DJ hard at work. Around 4am he began playing more to his traditional style and by 4:30 I was all out dancing, however my buddy wanted to leave and I had to bail.
All in all a great night. I hope the next time he’s in town he plays here – I wouldn’t have changed a thing. |

Thanks so much Atho, great review. Yes, Danny Techno came to town and blazed Toika. A little different than what the I&U crew is used to, but like you said, an absolutely flawless set technically. The crowd was so amazing and so into it, we couldn't have asked for more. Danny had a blast, loved the room, loved the vibe, we'll definitely have him back soon.
Thanks to everyone who braved the storm, we sooooo appreciate it. gD |

| Had such an amazing time on Saturday. Unfortunately had to peace out early because of work the next morning. Toika is really starting to grow on me! Very similar to zone.. only with proper talent being brought in on the regular. |
