Possibly the best mix Oakie ever did, now being replayed on BBC Radio 1

| Sweet, haven't heard this in a while. This should kill some time. |

| What makes you think it was mixed on a computer? Oakey ballses up some of the transitions. |

God, it's painful listening to him trying to explain artistic decisions. It's quite endearing to hear he still has passion for some of these old tracks though - listen to him eagerly impel you to "Listen to this!" during Inner City Life.
EDIT: They're rerunning a few old Essential Mixes as part of the 20th birthday celebrations. Pleased to see this classic from Bukem get another airing. The mixing is absolutely unreal:

Was listening to Gold Mix yesterday and remember hearing surface noises and pops.
LTJ's EM is crazy good too, and yes the mixing is insane. I think he is the best DJ when it comes to blending D&B. Most DJs try to use the double drop method.
Maybe I'll listen to LTJ's later tonight. |

| There's a transition about 30-35 minutes into Bukem's set, between Aquasky - Dezires and PFM - The Mystics, that is just absolute sex. I remember going through the tracklist song by song trying to find out what this incredible piece of music was. Turns out it was two tracks being blended together. |

I really liked his '96 Essential Mix and never heard this one. This is probably the best DnB mix I've ever heard. The first half was probably my favorite...love the way he builds all the way up to Skanna - Find Me. I really think the guy is in a league of his own.
edit: this mix showcases why that year was the Golden Age of Artcore/Atmospheric Jungle & DnB...just beautiful stuff. |
