2014.02.28 Ben Klock @ Output (pg. 5)

Agreed the sound was slightly off, although still crisp and loud. I'm no loudspeaker expert but the "sub" or bass horn in the front (or in last nights case-the back) doesn't pump out low-mid like a 12 or 15 inch. Maybe it's the very low end? Same case with the stacks near the booth. I need to do some research. I think the sound was even more off last time for klockworks night, or I at least remember being bothered by the lack of volume or something.

Ben had the chunky scarf on in the beginning and the nag champa incense going all night. Swag.

Line of the night goes to aystar for telling some obnoxious dude that he was selling crack, 2 for 5.

Met some cool people last night. Good crowd

just to pop in belatedly as to ucf's comment:

I fully agree with the general point, but this specific case is different.

the guy who said that does not have to know Droid or the roster of droid, that happens, you can still ne into techno. all the more fun to make new discoveries.

and it would certainly be a fair statement to make say, finally, some real or good techno, when hearing Liebing do his stuff.

But where I'm totally with Seb is when this comment is made ABOUT music thats played AT Output.

That statement shows total ignorance of all the good and great techno there since the opening.
Either the commenter hasn't been to Output more than a handful of times, in which case HE's being pretentious, esp. because the obvious ignorance is so plain to see for a lor of people who know better from own expetience.
should have just kept mouth shut, and Seb's disbelief is totally on point.

Or, the guy HAS been to Output plenty, but then you're still in which WTF mode, because you have to ask, what was he hearing, and what dyes he think techno is?
(and it wouldn't be the hardcore Berghain crowds attitude we discussed a while back, because to them CLR is too commercial to be real techno, amongst other labels they see same way...)

Anyway glad to hear there was another Klock masterclass last night.
Funny I never had any sound issues with the reverse set up last time, in fact I remember thinking that I was NOT hearing the differences I had expected when nor facing forward to the mains.
bass of the lowest Freq's is pretty non directional, something you can notice at Pacha and their asymmetric bass battery set up.
(course, I rarely park myself smack in the middle of the front horn, or in floor central for that matter...)

Last night was brilliant. Reverse layout again like the klockworks label night, I really like the switch. Ben took 30 minutes or so to get started- I really liked his dark atmospheric, gritty intro tracks. The way he mixes through songs is truly something else. He was using 3cdjs and 2 vinyl decks. The flow he gets into is no joke.

Great seeing vicious, aystar, and finally got to meet xpander.

good seeing you too man!

Yeah, the typical DJ booth was empty and the small stage/lounge area near the middle staircase is where the makshift booth was. The first time Ben played there he didn't feel connected/close enough of the crowd so he made the suggestion and they've been doing that for him since.

a little late with this review but WOW
klock really brought berghain to brooklyn friday night
insane set, i seen him 2 years ago with dettman and it was just as intense. very cool dj, loved to interact and be close with his fans so i understand why he did the reverse set up.
it was def a lil weird to see output layed out like that and yes i agree the sound was a lil off, could have been louder at some area's
great seeing the usual ta's...panda,xpander,ben140
