Sasha on ADD and his favourite track on it

Orkidea run an interview of Sasha (he was on a gig here on 12th of Sept.) on his radio show last month and here's what Sasha had to say about his debut album:

"I guess originally the idea to make an artist album... emm.. the seeds of this idea were planted probably 7 years ago. At that time I didn't even know how to turn the computer on. I didn't know anything. I had done lots of remix work before that but I always worked with a production team and I never really took care any of the technical side of things. I really acted as a producer and an arranger. I was the person that kind of brought the dance music edge to what the other producers were doing. Seven years ago when I decided to make this album I bought a studio and it took me a lot longer to learn how to use the equipment and to get good on using the equipment than I would've never expected. I mean it took me a long time to learn my way around the studio but the main reason the album didn't come together for so long was because I was just having too much fun travelling around the world deejaying. I knew that to make an album like this I would have to take a year off and I just didnt' want to do that. I was at the peak of my career as a dj and getting offered gigs all over the world, Australia, Hong Kong, South America. I didn't wanna take a year off and it just got to the point about two years ago when I thought okay, I've been talking about this for five years now, I need to make the record. So, I took pretty much a year out from deejaying and it came together then and I just really worked hard on it...The people that were involved in making the record with me was... uhh.. a lot of the writing was handled by myself and Charlie May. Charlie May who was in Spooky, I did Xpander with him, remixes for like Chemical Brothers and stuff. The production side of things and the mixing side of things was taken care of by Junkie XL who just did the Elvis track... Tom, who's fantastic."

"The tracks that I'm most fond of are probably the first three or four tracks on the album, the more ambient tracks... they are the tracks that I feel have the kind of an emotional sort of vibe to it that I was trying to get at. I think my favourite track is probably Magnetic North."

"A month before the album came out when I told the record company there weren't any singles for the album... you know, a lot of people suggested that I perhaps should include Xpander, perhaps even a new version of Xpander but that kind of closed the chapter on that music and this was a new thing for me and I didn't really want to include that older stuff."

Great interview piece...it's good to hear some more info about the album from the man itself, as well as an explanation of the (in?)famous 7 years that the album took to make.

Thanks for posting it!

i'm glad sasha decided not to include xpander or any other old project on this cd. i mean it is a total classic and all, but think how horrible it would be if all your career was ever credited with was one song? :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3
