Hi guys,

Some of the regulars here might remember me asking for insights on record label related stuff some years back. Last year I posted some music business-related articles about my bachelor thesis. Basically I've been walking around since 2009 with a record label concept with new twist. I graduated on the concept in the summer of 2012. I've spent a lot of time thinking and working on this concept.

Today is quite a big day for me, very exciting and somewhat scary. The first real parts are starting to show:

>> Loving Music <<

After a lot of feedback from you guys a lot of the concept behind Loving Music has been made more clear

quote:
Loving Music is a one-off record label fuelled by a passion for music and technology.

We strive to make music accessible for everyone, without limitations, anywhere and anytime. By employing this unique vision we aim to reach and inspire electronic music lovers around the globe.

What we offer artists:
- A massively increased reach as fans can download/stream your music for free, legally
- You will get additional royalties for every free download too, plus we'll cover the extra fees involved
- Digital distribution to the most relevant online music stores and streaming platforms as well as the lesser known ones
- A fair royalty percentage on performed sales
- Extensive promotion through the Loving Music platform and various social media channels
- The opportunity to build a long-term relationship
- The chance to do things differently :)

What we expect from artists:
- The submitted demo will be available for exclusive signing
- The music hasn't been made available to anyone

Do you sound like this?

Then fill in the form below ;)

Have a record label?
I'm in the process of setting up a record label toolkit. I've realized one tool just now which aims to making demo management a lot easier. More tools will follow. I'm currently beta testing the service and improving it non-stop. For now, usage is free for every beta-tester and probably will be up to somewhere in March 2014. Have a look at the Loving Promos Demo Manager if you're interested in trying the service out. Current beta testers have cut down their time spent on reviewing demos as much as 75%, and responded to every single demo they received in the process :)

Fix your website, so it tells people what this is actually all about, instead of talking about walking unwalked paths and other empty words. 99% of people are going to try and read a few paragraphs on your home page and then just be like nah too hard.

The blurb doesn't even make sense.

quote:
Pick two keywords: techno, progressive house, spacey, pads, stabs, drive. Do you fit the bill?

Is progressive house one or two keywords? What if I just drive stabs? Are you really looking for someone with a history of knife related assault?

Need eyes much? There's a huge blue block you got in front of you as soon as you clicked that link. edit: Any feedback is valuable, I've simplified the text in the blue block a bit, which would possibly give it a lot more meaning to a lot of the readers

Now this I understand and have changed. Thanks. If people really want to know more there are plenty of links around that point to more info.

And a happy belated new your to you too :toothless

Don't get me wrong bro. I wish you the best. I'm just giving you positive feedback in my negative way.

Yeah I'm aware, it just needed some time to sink in. It's hard not to take it personally when you've been on a project for so long and get criticized straight away after launch :).

If you feel anything else could be improved I'm looking forward to the feedback. Cheers!

We know you've been playing with ideas a lot in past years, you weren't really crisp then and for sure the new website doesn't make it any clearer :D

I just gave it my typical 30sec attention spann, to see if anything popped out reading what you can do for me, either as an artist or consumer.

I read a lot of blabla and some typical blogs and somewhere i found a demo upload applet. then some moaning about shortening your listening time.

after 1 min I was bored and still didn't have ing clue, what the purpose is of this website. :D

I would recommend to leave all this content somewhere, but have a no nonsense landing page, with a clear punchline:

We are loving music and we help artists and consumers
for artists click here (and explain short and precise what you offer)
same for consumers
then do something about "why LM?" who do you compete with, what do you offer? what makes you different?

Are you the new soundcloud/mixcloud/bandcamp/beatport or "all metadata aggregator, all content in 1 place"player like coolblue or beslist.nl
Or are you the new REBEAT or Labelworx? or are you just another layer between aggregators, with a marketing scheme, to "empower artists" and make them "self supporting" (basically rip their money off for an electronic release ;) ) not sure....
where do you wanna play? and what makes your proposition unique.

I didn't even get a value prop from the site ATM, maybe it's there, but it's well hidden... :D

Thing is I don't want to give away too much, but there are some things I can tell. I will clean up that homepage today. Great feedback. The consumer part is not at all relevant right now. I can't do anything for any consumer without artists. But apparently that part needs improving too. I think I know how...
Raphie
I think you should go to market when ready
teasing with a lot of "info" without actually giving anything meaningful away doesn't work well.

Good luck! Hope it works out for you :)

Firstly - best of luck with this project!

Secondly - what is the music policy regarding demos? I couldnt see anything about that anywhere on the site, thanks

Just drastically revised the homepage. Went for a single page setup which should explain all the basics. Hope everything is clear now. Thanks everybody for the harsh but very useful feedback.

If anybody wants to take another crack at it. I'd love you to.

As for the demo policy. Just use the form embedded on the homepage and you should be good :).
