That is about 199 US dollars for the complete "no moving parts" computer because you may only need a 256 gig SSD drive.
7.5 ghz of cpu power on any multi core "tool" tasks you may demand in a daw. (After taking a little off for the OS and performing the graphics)

Not bad at all, shame it's Celeron with low clock speed. Might be able to run 10 voices of Diva if you're lucky.
Alternatively:
i5 running at 3.5G ~$200
mobo with integrated graphics ~70
8g ram ~60
cheap case with psu ~30
hdd ~50
total 410
Yeah, more than double the price, but probably more than double the speed IRL terms when running VSTis.
Computer farms are nice in theory, been thinking of something like that myself.
But. KVM switches are either horrible or expensive, or both. Probably better to just freeze a lot. |

Clay,
it's somekind of newer chip by intel which is most of a PC's
motherboard on one single chip. A "SoC" chip which contains other stuff on top of the cpu cores. They use very very little power and the heat/bricks are what are recommended even at full load. (two maybe)
vercetti
that is a nice set up you mention . lot of power there.
Yes , i suspect with i5 there will be cpu fans and maybe a fan in the PSU? which may slightly lump up the price?. Not sure what i5 form factor is or what mobo's hold i5 or if they are mini itx?. Those large bladed coolers are a great alternative even if a little pricey.
Yes it says this i5 4670 can go to 3.8ghz in turbo (4 cores). That is extra to it's regular clock
Anybody with any input here on little PC systems would be handy
to know.

Hi Clay
Only just able to reply back now.
Yes
Shuttle just had this one come out

I was wondering if many people realize how it's simple to put
Linux onto computers with Android. Tools such as the free "Crouton"
are available in the Android store. Just a few clicks leaves people
with a dual boot Linux and Android machine. (Complete Linux installer)
does it. (Free app in the store)
That idea uses a system called "Chroot" to achieve Linux on Android. It's very simple to do on any android device where the kernel supports looped devices.(most do)
The good thing is that Android and Linux run at the same time. You can flick between the two.
It is similar to tools for windows like "Speedlinux" and "Portable Ubuntu" which allow you to just click a file on the windows desktop and Linux loads up and starts running alongside windows at the same. Performance is the same as a native Linux boot.

that was an example Clay.
They run a dual core celeron at 2.58 ghz (not bad and the silent tiny PC build
would just be $180 with shipping)
watching out for the quad core boards which are due soon at $75 sporting
a quad chip at about 2.3 ghz
(making a nice new silent tiny PC building project top out at about $199 with 256 gig SSD)

yes clay
the new NUC are nice as i have seen them
i was wrong in the sense that the quad core chips/board
i mentioned runs at 2.42 ghz per core. This is really quite
some power for $75. (hope they come out soon) j1900 board.
There was supossed to be an 8 core chromebook released at the vegas show but it never
showed up...priced around $219 us dollars 10.1 inch screen.
(that would CHROOT into Linux and be great.) |

Yes Clay, there are many motherboard manufacturers making the
quad boards already. Though it seems MSI are the company to aim for about 74.99 for them
MSI also offer a board with quad core pentium chip the j2900 |
