"Hip Ambient"?

Found this one by coincidence, and fell in love instantly. Any tracks you know that are similar? I'd love some recommendations. There could even be some hiphop producers that have a sound like this, I think?
Some of Sorrow's other work is a bit similar (like this one), but he also has a lot of grime stuff (which I at least think is grime, since it's labeled as such), which I don't enjoy that much.

A Google search on Hip Ambient brings little good results. In Last.fm I found Trentemøller under Hip Ambient artists, but it really wasn't what I was looking for.

So, any similar recommendations are welcome! Thanks in advance.

PS. Sorry for the vague topic / genre name. I don't know what else this sound is called. Hip Ambient is the genre that is given for Art Is Dead in Sorrow's SoundCloud. I think the bassline and overall atmosphere is what I'm looking for. In the end, Hip Ambient could be far from what I'm really looking for. I just don't know what this music is called.

Hmm, I listen to your youtube sound and off the top of my head I think of Flako, Take, and Super Smoky Soul.

Beats.

J Dilla and Slum Village...

I recently purchased an album on bandcamp by The Northern Lights called "Journey Through Your Mind's Eye" which is rated ambient hip hop but I haven't had a chance to listen, yet. I'll try to remember to pop back in here and let you know what I think.

Hence the quotation marks.

You'll not get very far searching for "hip ambient" or "ambient hip-hop". Generally this sound would be referred to as simply "downtempo" or possibly trip-hop. A lot of the stuff being made in this area is a little more dubstep-influenced rhythmically than classic hip-hop breaks from a few years ago, such as that other Sorrow track you linked to.

There are literally thousands of artists making downtempo/trip-hoppy stuff, so I could fill this entire thread with Youtube links, but how do these ones fit the vibe you're after?

Oh, sorry, I thought you had typed hip hop ambient so I was imagining some smooth and sexy beats, more calming than bouncy. When I listen to your youtube, it does kind of remind me of fLako, though.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this kind of stuff labeled as "chill step" lol

That Bonobo track is great, and I think a lot of his stuff would fit the sound OP is looking for.

Or maybe some Boards of Canada?

Chillstep is slightly different - it's the horrendous you get when brostep kids try to sound deep. There's never really been an official label for the post-Burial trend of home listening dubstep. We've always called it "atmospheric dubstep" round these parts. That whole movement ended up merging with the downtempo/trip-hop movement so you get albums that blur the lines.

Have you tried Flying Lotus?
Check out Cosmogramma, 1983 and Los Angeles. Probably in that order.

This just came on my itunes shuffle, thought I'd share it in this thread. Very nice combo of chill and groove.
