Percussion Problems- what are you using?

I've been spending a lot of time working on percussive elements that for the most part have been genuinely frustrating me.
In the first 16 bars you may have your kick, snare, hats, bass; and then where I'm struggling, is with the other syncopated percussive elements. I've been using a lot of different 909 samples; toms, kicks, snares and working with multi-band distortion, EQ, compression to give them a distinct character, but I'm just not getting anything out of it that I'm enjoying.

What are you cats using?

I use battery 4 synthetic drums (1+2) as my percussion. Just where are you having problems? Do you need help creating patterns?

I'm definitely good on patterns, I'm just wondering what people are using for their sounds.
The Dark NINJA
Yeah, i'm good too. I'm also interested to see what everyone else is using.

I mainly just use Battery 4 and a bunch of sample libraries. Sometimes I use samples from a ROMpler too, like an ASR10 or something.

I don't use drum machine (909 etc) samples, because they are basic and sound like crap unless you spend all day layering them. By the time you have done that though, you could have finished a whole track if you just used good samples in the first place.

Not sure I really understand the question. For dance/electronics stuff, I mostly use Maschine or Battery 4+Sonar's step sequencer and either their factory libraries or third party libraries (usually Wave Alchemy). Sometimes I just arrange drum samples on audio tracks, but I generally prefer something like Maschine or Battery for re-pitching or mangling samples, better groove control, etc. For additional parts, I sometimes layer in synth drums from Tremor, Drumazon, Stylus RMX, etc.
The Dark NINJA
Yeah, i too had difficulty understanding the question.

if question is about the sounds, I use a lot sample libraries (using Battery 4) from companies like Loopmasters, Uberschall, and the new freshly squeezed samples (for trance they have some signature series from Activa and The thrillseekers) and sometimes I prefer to use loops specially when nothing comes to my mind and don't want to waste time.

Sometimes those loops are processed in ReCyle so I can mute some parts or change the pattern.

All of the above processed with compression EQ Distortion flanger anything that I think is good for the track

if your asking what sounds for percussion??
i use Battery 4 built-in sounds, with Battery 2&3 sounds + Synthetic Drums 1+2
Wave Alchemy various packs
Live 9 suite
Couple of Sample Magic packs
Magnus
Battery 3 here.

I remember trying Battery 4, but got pissed off pretty quickly of how laggy and slow it was.

Rmx is the way for me. Just love that thing.

it all depends on what mood im in and what im making at the time i use fruitys built in drum tools with some decent samples. or i use fruitys slicex with loops because you can pick and choose what part of the loop i need ect.

i say there is no limit to how much percussion you use in a track but remember the more you use the lees space you have for other things.
