Im gonna need a desk when i move into my new house soon - at the moment have a custom built job thats kinda screwed to the wall, i dont think it will be feasible to take it with me

What are you guys using? I was having a look on some of the music stores and studio desks seem quite pricey :(
thanks

just make sure you have rack space at eye level forcing you to put your screen high up so old age will be a bitch. But seriously. You need a desk. Low enough so that you can fit your screens and look down at the right angle. Speakers should be on stands. Forget the desk for that. Ikea sells an 80 desk with adjustable leg heights. That is all you need. You can put your rack stuff under or to the side. Or if you don't have a 88 key piano, on the desk itself.

Just don't buy those ridiculous huge desks that seem to not understand what the a good desk should do other than look cool.

Well the obvious question is what do you actually want to put on your desk?

Yeah something from IKEA might do - i have also spotted some more affordable options on thomann

Basically need to put my 2 screens, also Waldorf Q rack, possibly another synth, PC underneath...thats about it

Im not sure if those studio desks would hold a pair of SM9s, they are heavy ******s - so might resort to getting seperate stands for them, which is another story in itself im sure :-/

I'd look at some office furniture. That's what I'm going to do when I get my studio into a proper room.

A lot of them allow you to spec size and colour :-

You could also add some ready made MDF racks from somewhere like Ebay :-

The desk has cable routing and the MDF racks would be more than stable enough to put your monitors on. You'd need to get some isolation of course.

That would be about 200-250.

The good thing about office desks like this is that they are big, cheap and well made.

cool man thanks - something like that would do the job - im not after anything fancy...just functional

The MDF racks...you would put those on top of the desk and the monitors on top of them? or have I misunderstood that completely?
thanks
tehlord
Yeah that's what I'd do, although I'd put some acoustic matting under the racks and then some acoustic pads between the rack and the monitors. Even then I'd check for any resonance as it's not going to be as good as a stable stand, but it'll probably do just fine.

cool man - i have aurelex mopads so they are supposed to isolate the speakers and all that jazz
thanks for your help

not sure how this new room will work out, 4m x 3.87m which is a bit squarish :nervous:
