While I love the aesthetics of European cars they generally are more expensive and less reliable than their Japanese counterparts.
My opinion is based on reviews and real world experience. The owner of the company I work for had to have the engine of his Audi replaced after 5 years and 50k. The dealership told him it was due to not being driven like a sports car. He once let me borrow the car took me 5 minutes to start the car. Apparently there is something wrong with the ignition. The key gets stuck, you have to push it a certain way to get it to turn. All this from a 60k+ car. Does one car condemn all European cars no but it's enough to dissuade me from buying one. |

I know too many people happily driving beamers and Audi's for over 25 years to get that opinion. For the record I'm driving 100% Japanese with a Honda and a Toyota.
What about the Mini?
You'll find problem cars everywhere. |

A friend owned a mini had nothing but bad things to say backed up with bad reviews. That's another example of good looks bad car. Jaguar is another...bad looks bad car. |

Still in a 2003 Honda Pilot EX. It gets the job done and is big and comfy on long trips. A bit expensive though MPG wise.
New transmission in it last winter. Has just over 150k miles on it (transmission went at 148k). I need a new windshield too, there is a crack along the top on the passenger side. |

1997 Mitsubishi Lancer. No issues and it's still on the original clutch. :wtf:
I had a 2012 BMW 3 Series when I lived in the US. That was fun. Leased on the business, so I looked after it really well... :gsmile:
I should buy a new car, but I only use it once a week, so it's hard to justify. I was thinking about getting a 2013 Subaru Forester, because I go on fishing trips twice a year and it's a lot safer for country driving. |
