Noise From The Limiter?

Is it normal when the limiter is turned on or is it something I shouldn't worry about? |

Can you give more details?
what limiter are you using?
what kind of noise?
have you checked with a spectrum analyzer or another metering tool? how many dbs of noise?
if you mute all the channels but the master (I assume your limiter is there) do you still hear the noise?
Is this happening with different projects? |

Hardware or software? |

This is correct. |

Yeah, but I don't think that any of their limiters have an Analog button on them, do they? Some of the channel strips do (e.g., SSL 4000 and various vintage emu's), but I wouldn't call those plugins "limiters". |

It is the cubase internal "maximizer" limiter.
This is weird because, just noticed, it does it only in that specific project. But even if I change limiter there is still noise!
Even without gain reduction. There is that "Shhhh" noise which disappears only by muting the limiter...
Tried muting everything else but nah...is the limiter...

What's the source material? If it's a sample library thing there could be some noise for added "warmth" or whatever. That would be amplified by whatever compressors/limiters you're using. |

It does it always.
I bypassed the limiter, than turned the volume up of every single channel and NO noise at all. As soon as I reactivated the limiter that "shh" came back again. Tried every limiter I got and it does it with all of them, only in that project.

I've used some vec3 samples, but I don't get what you mean. |

Some demo plugins will emit intermittent noise, but this doesn't sound like the case.
Try a basic process of elimination. Save it as a new project first, then start deleting every other track, bus, effect plugin, etc. one by one until only the track or bus with the limiter is left. Make sure the limiter is on while you're doing this so you see if anything you delete gets rid of the noise. After you've deleted all other tracks, etc, see if it's still making noise. If it is, then start deleting any other audio clips or other plugins from the track/bus with the limiter until the noise goes away, or until only the limiter is left. If it's still making noise with nothing but the limiter left in the project, then save it and see if maybe you can send the file to another Cubase user to confirm the problem. |

At the end I deleted the project. It wasn't really an important one, but I'm pissed cause I might never understand the reason behind that. |
