The buisness side of DJing - Rates and Contracts

I would like to know how all of the dj here that spin out determine their rates--or if they are determined for them. Do you charge hourly? Per session? Do you take into account the event size, who else is spinning and the economy of the city?

Also how many djs here use contracts, and if so, do you write them up yourself, have you found a template on the web, or do you belong to an organization that helps with contracts and bookings?

I'm a booking agent and I handle all of those issues for my talent, including the use of contracts.
You can check out the Talent Roster at http://www.anotherlevel.com/bookings.htm

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

I only DJ as a hobby, in case you were wondering.

if its local..no contracts are involved..and out of town..depends..if the promoter is a friend..and a random promoter gets a contract
and the way u can figure out your worth is
in another city..how many people come just to see you..with just your name on the flyer
and how much would they pay to get in
so lets say 100 people would pay 10 bucks to get in. thats 1,000 bucks.
so i would charge the promoter 200 + plus hotel and transportation

this is based off the numbers givin..if you are small..with no real name
when u get larger..its more..how much do u want kinda thing

I don't mean to bust your balls, here, Mikey, but I wanted to make sure I understood you correctly.
Are you saying someone would get 100 people to pay $10 a piece if it was just that person on the flyer!?
If so, please tell me who is capable of doing that.
