haven't done one of these in a long time much less start one up so here goes,
Paul set was good except the last 45 minutes he brought it down an didn't really bang it out like i know he can and usually does. his technical performance was a bit dodgy which was the worst i ve seen him play which was weird because 9 times out of 10 his mixing is on point. other than that i enjoyed it a lot he needs to come bk more often an go back to going his legendary 6+ hr sets when he's in town. visuals were good no lasers tho but still entertaining none the less. sad part of the night explain to the kiddies on numerous occasions what out there an back is oye ve still the question begs to be asked why doesn't he play some of his older productions let the new generation know what a master behind such great productions such as 45 rpm (minus for an angel least not 3 times but i know he does that in all the sets and its his thing but still..), anything from otab or even reflections (besides crush) tho i can't wait for tpod 3 to come out cause there are a few new tracks what i would like to cop but in any case as i mentioned it to a few tas i saw last nite no matter who ur current dj is that your digging you always will go back to your number one an in case its always going to be paul and I'm sure many of you guys especially the ones who are retired and only come out for when paul comes to town can agree with me on this one. good seeing many retired tas come out for this one till nxt time paul comes back to town enjoy the rest of your wkend

Tracklist some new tracks, not many older classic paul tracks, the usual pvd tracks he ll play FAA(3), crush, nyc, i don't deserve you (2 times), home, and ended with anthem and did one or was it two encores i can't remember burak has the tracklist |

Thanks for the review. I wish more people came to the forums and posted what they thought after miami shows.
I hear all this hype / this is gonna be awesome / this is gonna suck and no followup after the show is over. I would think that's the beauty of a forum community, share experiences to help others :conf: |

There are not many of us on the Miami side that go out. Most of the other members are from Tampa/Orlando. Trance is dead in Miami so I don't waste my money on it anymore. Rather plunk down $15 for a good techno night at Treehouse than drop $30+ for a set full of Trouse.
Glad you had fun Hito. Long sets are the only guarantee that the old maestros of Trance won't be playing EDM music. I might have gone out to see PVD for a 6 hour set, but I've been burned multiple times seeing PVD where he drops nothing but electro nonsense. Saw him in Scotland and I made my way to a second room full of local dj's who were spinning TRANCE not robot sex noises and drops everywhere music. |

| It never gets old. Pauls Energy Level Is Better Than I've Seen In Years And It Carries Over To The crowd, young and veterans. Played a fairly consistent set as he's been, very similar to the last few recorded sets. It's his energy that makes it all new and fresh. Look forward to the next |

What can I say? I had a great time.
It's so odd to me, that the set ends so early nowadays, because I grew up to PvD ending his NYC sets past 7 in the morning. Same goes to Ferry, AvB, Exit/Sound Factory, Spirit, Avalon nights.
It would be 7:30 in the morning, and Roxy would turn on the lights, but we'd all still be going apesh!t, and chanting "Paul van Dyk! Paul van Dyk Paul van Dyk!" for an encore, then we'd make our way down those stairs, come out in to the sunlight, and make the trip down West Side Highway and in to Arc/Vinyl for the afterparty.
I have to say again - I had a great time, and really miss the melodic, uplifting sets versus today's whatever the fcuk it's called. It was great hearing 4 Strings - Take Me Away, For An Angel, Home - but I wish there were more classics. Call me an old-timer, what have you. I do enjoy his recent productions - but nothing screams HOLY COW BATMAN - like a Born Slippy; Cafe del Mar; False Light; Holding on to Nothing; No One on Earth.
Anyways, great time, great set. Enjoyed seeing the old crew, and meeting the new faces. |

| What a great night!!! Just was expecting little more trancey classics.But other then that such a great energy...only PVD can do something like that! Only thing what was unacceptable they just opened the door at 10 after even ticket says doors open at 9. People were freezing out there... |

glad i came out of retirement for this one. yea i wish there were more trancey classics too. but it wasn't bad by far considering that many of his sets now contain more electro-house.
ugh he ended with Anthem? bah. subpar...there were SO many other (classic) tracks he could have ended with. |

hahaha NOTHING screams HOLY BATMAN. SERIOUSLY!!!!!! altho Rank 1's Airwave - Breathing Breaks Dub remix (i think?) kinda made me do that. lol bah i was hoping for Holding Onto Nothing, i had never heard him throw that down in NYC (i only started in late 2002) until the Crobar Closing Party but i used to hear it in madd sets that I heard from abroad...i remember going OH when i heard that finally |

Okay, so firstly, the wait on the line was not fun; wish they would have let people in even a half hour earlier than they did, or, like my friend had suggested, they had some sort of enclosure set up. Although the practicality of that would have quickly diminished given the long line that did eventually form, lol. Did like the fact that security was really nice and got inside very easily and without incident. Venue itself was very spacious and, like my friend also pointed out, acoustics were worthy of PVD:) Managed to find spots to dance all night long, given the fact that I had not seen him at a club since 05, ergo I wanted to dance as much as I could, lol.
Sigh. Well, I do not want to be ungrateful and complain about the trouse/electro moments, but I did expect more TRANCE from him. Still, there were actually a couple of trouse/trouse-ish tracks that were not bad and enjoyable...but that was probably bc there was actual trance to balance out the trouse. Also, I did not mind it as much when there were periods where it got a bit too crowded to dance.
Universal Nation was the track of the night for me:eyespop:
In great part bc this was the opening track to Tiesto's Innercity set, which was the first trance set I ever heard...and it also has to do with the fact that Tiesto once spun not only trance, but GOOD trance, lol. Just meant alot to me, more than For An Angel actually, which I had wanted a better mix(es) to have been played. idk, did not hate the ones he played, but wanted to hear the original. That or Tell Me Why; again, that track (and video) are very meaningful to me as a trancer:) Hell, I will also say that I wanted to hear We're Alive, rofl. Yes, yes, I know, I know, its commercial and ultra-cheesy, but its light years ahead of any trouse/electro song; plus it also reminds me of the old WLIR which was playing actual trance, right about the time I joined TA, lol (for example, I first heard both Eugina and Light Over Me on that station; if only he had played these two as well...) Was nice hearing Breathing, but wanted the original Airwave. Was also great hearing Take Me Away again, and, yes, I Don't Deserve you, because, again, its a nice song that is not drowned in trouse, saturated in electro, or hindered by dubsetp.
All in all, glad I went:) Had wanted to hear trance at Hammerstein since I saw (on TA, of course!)that Oakenfold was spinning there, more than a decade ago. Did not necessarily want to see Oakey, but going to the venue was something I always wanted to do. Don't want to have to hear trance at hoity-toity, bottles and models clubs all of the time. |
