New, yeah, it had only been around for about 70 years, and useage by 1983/84 had been so extensive (ask people who were in college around that time if they had heard of E, if not used it... plus it was clean powder then too, thanks to the kitchens in Boulder) that the DEA banned it by '85, was legal again in '86 for a couple of months, then finally banned for good...
