beatmatching without touching your records (pg. 2)

it really depends what i am doing
i usually get the incoming record beatmatched by just using the slider...then when i start to mix and both records are live...depending on the severity of the adjustment needed...ill either touch the platter or use pitch
so you don't really notice a pitch change either way
however sometimes its impossible to use JUST the pitch to beatmatch...
for example if you have a tune that needs to be at +7% or something
if you don't use your hands to speed that record up you'll be waiting forever for it to catch up ;) |

| The only time a touch the record is when I push off...I use nothing but the pitch slider...I've been trying to figure out how djs touch the record to beatmatch...it always throws the record way off the times I've tries it when playing around with my tables.. |

well what i do.. is I push on the label (or slow down on the platter depending if i need to speed up or slow down). so i push on the label until the beats are aligned.. then they get screwed up again. so i speed it up. push, speed it up,push, speed it up,until they dont get screwed up again..
maybe my procedure sucks and someone can recommend another? |

ya try not to touch the record unless its really ing up, usually if not pitch control i tweak the middle pin to increase speed or brush the platter to slow it down..
my pitch control is messed cuz i tweaked it on my tech12s to maximum effect, so +8 is more like +12, very sensitive, and i always forget where my original pitch setting was at.. heh |

HEre's how to use the pitch slider to line it up fast.
1. Throw the record in your headset.
2. Listen if it's to slow or to fast.
3. Throw it a lot faster or slower than you need.
4. Keep going back and forth, with _fast_ jumps.
5. You will start to see it's between say +2 and +2.5 %
6. Now you can start to do is _slower_, goign back and forth
7. After a while you'll just hear it.
Good luck. |

no no no
i mean okay say the track you are beatmatching has to be at 7.5% to be beatmatched with the live record
if you don't touch the record at all after you let it go, it will take forever for the beat to catch up because you can only go 0.5% faster than the live record...and when you initially let the record go...you rapidly move the pitch slider up and down until you find the general area that it needs to be in to be beatmatched
bah i can't explain it
it has nothing to do with the tables (i have 1210 m3d's)
bah nevermind hahaha |

Well I'd just like to say that Ferry Corsten touches the record all the time. I've personally seen him do it live and I've also seen him do it all the time on a couple of vidz I have.
So don't despair. Even if you touch the record you can still be one of the world's best DJs. |

If you use top direct drive decks, then they have very high torque motors, so usually when you speed the record up by touching the vinyl, it will very quickly adjust back to pitch which you have it adjusted to, so the beats will sound out (slower) so you'll need to speed it up again.
You don't need to touch the vinyl once you've released the record.(i use the platter anyway when releasing) If your record is playing 0n 33, then hold down the 33 button, and gently tap the 45 button to speed up. To slow down use the platter, not the record. If your record is playing on 45 and you need to speed up the record it's a different story. This is a very tricky technique and has to be mastered before seemlessly producing it. To speed it up, quickly + the pitch up about 0.5 (dependind on how far the beats are out) andf shift back to slighty more than it should've been, baring in mind your mix has slightly slipped out and needs + adjusting.
I do never touch the record! Top quote from Roger Sanchez, i've never heard him say that, but it's true. |
