other than jamie xx & seb leger 0 good bookings
piknik is done for me, sold out long ago, but this just puts the nail in the coffin
i dont blame them from a business point of view. I get it, people go to piknik for piknik now and not the djs. Keep costs low and profit high. I just feel bad seeing the slow decay of an event that wasnt about the money back in the day.
But hey, I'd do the same thing if it was my company as well. It's the fans that lose out.

I've been hearing booking fees have been going up everywhere, from the big cheese acts right down to the many on that 2009 list, so maybe their business model is just not sustainable anymore?
Just speculating here, could be a combo of factors, sponsorships always seems to be a big one for example. |

Axel Boman b2b John Talabot for Mutek last year was probably one of the best sets I've heard on that island |

You would really like Madben and Oniris.
Move D and Donato Dozzy for me, and maybe Leon Vynehall and Midland. Oh and Cleymoore and Schaa for the Archipel thing. The Anoma thing should be cool too, but that's about it. And call me a hater or whatever but I think Piknic plays favorites with locals and it's not fair imo. |

| I'm looking forward to Monitor. Good to see Mighty Cat on there too. I would've really liked to see Maus on the schedule, she's probably my favorite local. |

For the amount of people that would potentially attend, I would montreal seems terrible in terms of what it could be.
The local talent, well the talent that seems to work are terrible. Skill aside, they all have that meathead look. They all tend to a 1 ty beatport track and it is quite clear the younger talent are being ignored so these s , most of them in their late 30s can feel like they aren't complete losers for at least a night.
Everything is overpriced in afterhour scene and you will usually get no names and a nice 40 $ price tag. The crowd , well stereo , better crowd but the music is rather strict in its format. Circus seems to be run by the same dumbasses djing that don't seem to understand that when your average age is above 30, and you are vying for the straight crowd, not so good. The lighting is a joke, the people are aggressive and except for about 5 staff members, I sometimes wonder if some of these s don't sort of take an inventory of how the place is usually at 1/5 capacity , most being the typical douche bags making a last ditch effort to get laid. So if you are female, don't go alone. I would also caution anyone going that despite the rather old age , you are pretty much around the type of people that haven't read a book since high school,
The only places worth going are the private parties were people are friendly, there to have fun, a healthy mix of girls and boys, better djs, .....
I've never really understood how north Americas most student rich city has a terrible afterhour scene,. When Calgary had the warehouse, and this was when people were not going to these things , you would get more people on Calgary ,, than in montreal.
Won't comment on clubs because iptuey just get too packed and people just jump up and down. It is shame. The people you want at an afterhour, young , in university trying new things, well for some reason , they would rather have idiots that workout too much that have done so many substances that ed hardy is acceptable attire, and being with your crew dancing like a ing jack rabbit , arguably always regarded , well I suppose the fact that these primates are pushing 40.
Lots of potential. Lots of local talent that probably never gets a chance, I supposed I just don't understand given the breakdown of people that live there, why it isn't better.
The events that moog tend to be involved with are much better. Music is a concern , and they exist to provide music , not to perpetuate the lifestyle of heads that would end in a heartbeat if they couldn't tell people about their 1 track and djing .
iPhone and big fingers, I'm sure you can work out the words that seem to be gibberish. |
