John 00 Fleming is one of few artists in dance music that has preserved the underground respect whilst enjoying commercial success during a career spanning two decades. This March he's back at RISE, once again spinning all 5 hours in the main room!
John's ability to transcend genres in a quest to take great music to the masses, has resulted in a unique and sought after sound that is purely J00F. A pioneering producer and DJ, John 00 Fleming has led his own sonic movement, respected by artists across the globe from Moby and Muse to Jean Michel Jarre.
John has sold 10 million records, with singles on over 100 mix compilations and has remixed a cross section of elite artists from Erasure to NIN. He has had 10 mix compilations and 5 singles in the UK Top 40 charts on labels including Virgin, EMI and Warner Music.
In clubs, warehouses, basements, festivals and charts across the world, John 00 Fleming has well and truly earned his reputation as one of the most in-demand and well respected artists in dance music.

A month later and I would have been there. Oh well seems like you guys book him every year around this time so I'll make sure to make it next time. |

Dude that was one of the best events I've ever been to. You would have all absolutely loved it. It was all techno and psy-trance, with some DnB. There were fire jugglers and cheap hookah rentals right by the stages, cheap grilled food and like 7 bars with drinks ranging from 4-7 dollars each. It was in the middle of a backwoods town in Mass. It was so secluded I dare say it was almost a "rave." |

| 1:22, I'm right in the background of the chick twirling the dancey things. Talking to some chick with capris on. I have no idea who that was. I think I drank too much that night. |

fwiw:
The Gallery @ MoS, London, 2/28
went by there mainly to see J00F, and what looked like a pretty good trance night from the line-up.
Plus Ministry of Sound is a place you think you want to check out from just from the word of mouth of the place.
Got there around 11, about 40+ people on line, and everyone's complaining about that, lol, didn't seem so bad to me.
Security was tight, metal detectors and all, but my pat-down was nothing major after all.
Once inside, the backroom where J00F was scheduled, was still closed, so front room it is.
Kind or discouraging, dunno what, just not vibe coming through.
Place is actually ok, but no underground feel at all to me, more like a high quality Pacha, or better Marquee without the tables and attitude.
Finally mid, JOOF starrting up, way empty, couldn't have been more than 50-100 in there then.
And what a start, he definitely was playing to that audience, so if I did anything like a descriptive above, you'll see that this was NOT a good thing.
All in all, the first 30 min did nothing much for me, some good selections perhaps, but that t-word crossed my mind on and off.
He did make up for that for the last hour of his 90 min set, and by then it was packed, though I think some of that was due to people pouring in for Neelix.
Didn't really hear his Luminoity ADE set, so wanted to check out briefly, did about 20min.
Same story as above, some good stuff, but over all too much catering to the room, as in, oh, there's another drop...
So foreplay wasn't so special, despite the anticipation, but the main course made up for that.
After my 25 pound cab ride (about 3.5 miles, outch), what a relief:
Oval Space is one cool venue, and filled with AME.
Best news, guy waiting at Johnny line informs me that Frank just started, yeah.
When told that I just came from MoS, asked me:
"oh yeah, was it full of wankers?"
That about sums it up, not obnoxious, but still.
So, at least in that little microcosm last Friday, London looked a ton like NYC:
the kids at their version of Pacha with sounds to fit (and no one I talked to ever had heard of AME, interested at least...), a much more grown up crowd, attitude at AME.
Mind, none of this was ever as bad as one of those SPH, Bright Nights, or the worst guido Pacha events...
Why post all this here?
Cause in some ways, J00F def. did not live up to my expectations, thought that might be of interest (his ADE set was way better according to my memory).
AME, otoh, holy , that's about it. (First 3h or so was dj, not heard, then 2h live, then b2b...) |
