This is a great idea honey cakes :) |

Good posts all around
I'd love to have the occasional beer at Stereo because there's nothing better than a pint when you're out partying.. but would worry it might change things for the bad.
Don't even get me started on Toronto's 2AM last call. There's absolutely no reason that they subway couldn't run all night on the weekends. The biggest argument is that the tracks need to be maintained and they need X amount of hours to do that. Right now the last trains leave for their last trip at 1:15AM every night of the week which makes no sense to me. Coming from someone that used to drive the trains here in Toronto, I can tell you that ridership at 1AM on a Sunday night is nowhere close the ridership at 1AM on a Saturday night. I don't see why they don't shut down earlier Sun-Wed so they can stay open later on Thurs-Sat when it's needed.
Maybe it's worth tweeting TTC. |

| With all those bars on Crescent, it's almost like they chose bars in the area most likely to have problems so that the project is doomed before it starts, just so they can say they tried it and everyone who wanted to do it shuts up. |

| It makes the most sense to do it in the area that's most likely to have problems. It's much safer for them to evaluate what those problems will be before making a city wide, permanent decision. They wouldn't want to do it in easy to handle areas and then find out after that they totally underestimated the impact; that's just poor planning. |

Is Crescent that bad? I always thought Saint Laurent would be in tatters say if the Habs won the cup.
So who want to pop with me at Sir Winston's? |

| Also don't forget that Montreal is divided in borough with sub-mayors who actually have powers. Thinking about Plateau for instance where mayor Ferrandez has been tough on bars concerning noise complaints. Those neighborhoods are densly populated and you're more likely to see people resist. I totally expected Coderre to stay away from those neighborhoods and to do the pilot around downtown. Plus, trying it on Crescent will be a good way to see if the new law takes care of the problems outside the bars when everyone pours out at the same time at 3am. |

| I think people will just get used to .... and yes, I do miss Stereo Bar, I can't remember how many times I got stuck there for hours after leaving big Stereo because I was tired.... gosh..... ;-) |

| The point is do diffuse the number of people leaving at the same time. It gives people more options when they leave. Crescent makes sense because that is an area with too many people. |

The law's bull. Alcohol sales still stop at 3am. I can't imagine any bars/clubs on the streets designated that would ever do this. Paying staff for an extra 3 hours based on water bottle sales? LOL.. only solution is a big cover charge after 1am or something, which no one will pay for.
Mayor's idea is that leaving bars open later will allow people time to sober up. Here's a better idea, on friday and saturday nights have the metro open. One train every direction every half hour, and charge $5-6 per ticket instead of $3, from 1-5am. |
That's actually not true. Law says that the participant in the project have the opportunity to open until 6 AM and that alcohol can be served until that hour.
I actually work at one of these bars, and what I can tell you guys is that there's a good chance doors will close before 6 AM anyways, depending on how many people there is and obviously if those people still spend their money.
Therefore I think that it won't affect the afterhour scene at all, it might even be beneficial for places like Circus or Stereo considering there will be a lot more people in the "Quartier Latin" area after 3 AM... |
