LOL, i think we all have the same problem here. It's just a lot of fun to collect. My music music collection got out of control a long time ago when I had the stupid idea to keep everything I ever downloaded.
Then I saw Coup posting a thread about a mp3 database program which rocked. Now I actually catalogue everything I owned. I've already gotten rid of more than 30gb or so of music that I didn't like. I keep most of the stuff I have (mostly because I find 2002 is just smokin' with great new track releases).
Trust me, it's a very good idea to use a database program to catalog your mp3s, it will make collecting music a whole lot more enjoyable and more organized, and it's very easy to use too. |

What is the point of downloading garbage? All it does is kill bandwidth! No offense dude... but sounds like u gotta get a life outside of the box u live in. |

It's kinda like collecting buttons or stamps or bottlecaps... just looking at one of your bottlecaps won't give you much pleasure, but the mere thought that you have so many bottlecaps makes you happy. If someone was to tell you to throw them out because they are garbage, you just can't do it, because you spent so much time collecting them that it would feel like such a waste.
It's like that feeling you get when you put all your MP3s into winamp and look at the playlist just to see how many hours of music you have... and you realize how long it would take you to listen to it all... so many songs that you'll never listen to, but just the fact that they're there to show off is comfort enough.
I feel for ya dude  |

that is so true. it's hard for me to throw something away, but on the other hand, when it's gone, you'll soon forget about it. btw, i've collected stamps and bottlecaps :D |

A sure-fire way of slowing down is to suspend your internet account for a short period of time. That's what happened to me (well, i didn't voluntarily suspend it, i was, um, behind). Granted, i went crazy cuz i couldn't log in, but after a while i got used to it (spent more time fragging on UT to pass the time away).
Coming back on yesterday, this was the first place i came to just to see what i missed (and from what i see, not much really. No offense to anyone).
Prior to my suspension i was at work and, to kill some time i tried to write down all the livesets i had, and came up with 40. Not as many as the rest of ya'll but, for a 56Ker, that's quite a lot. And it was all in a 2 month period.
Anyway, try doing something like that. Keep your puter off unless you need it for something important like school, go out and meet all those hot chicks. |

hum... :(... i have that.... i feel bad unless i'm downloading something... i can't just simply be on the internet wasting bandwidth, i absolutely must be downloading something, especially when there's stuff to download.
it's just the fact that i download whatever i can because stuff is hard to find... but recently i got access to a HUGE ftp (THANK YOU, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!) and there's just so much stuff, and it's so easy to leech, that it's not really interesting. well, it actually is, but for the rare stuff like old-ass essential mixes from 1990s and max graham or william orbit live. i refuse to download recent sets.
i just don't know how to explain it... maybe it's just that feeling when you are expecting something, like a track/set to finish downloading (especially on my 56k) and then you can listen to it... |

I'm like that as well! Whenever I'm away from my PC, if it's on the 'Net, IT'S DOWNLOADING! Whenever I don't want something that I have a lot of (like pairs of headphones, copies of CD-Rs that I revised and put new versions of on CD-R, etc.) I just give it away to one of my friends. If it's something expensive like A/V equipment, other hardware, etc., I sell it. Even though you can't sell CDs (unless they're originals), you can give old copies away (like I have done before). I've given about 15 livesets away to a friend a few weeks ago and soon, I'll be giving away more to someone else. I'm doing this because I have multiple copies of the same thing and I recorded these when I didn't know about how to make CUE files or burn CDs with those, so all of those CDs are 1 long track apiece. I'm obsessed with coming home/waking up/coming back to my PC after a movie and seeing new music/files on it, waiting to be properly tagged, named, listened, and backed up! So, tiësto14, you're not alone! There are more people on here like this than me! |

Can you tell me what prog ur using, because I have 20 CDs full of singles and I dont even know what exactly is on them. I want to organise these tracks alphabetically without having them on my HD.
And for tiesto14. I know what you mean, i had the same thing some time back when i first got cable. I wanted every single set of Tiesto PvD and AvB. I even went to download PvDs and AvBs ASOT and Frits radio shows, now i just dont see the point of that. Im more selective with my music these days, and a hell of a lot more picky.
Remember QUALITY over QUANTITY ;) |
