throughout trance, there are tons of this effect in tunes. the underlying impression is one of transmission and communication. like a metaphoric soul search, clashed with the mind - be it in deep sea, or outer space.
it's out there.
aural stimulation converts into brain candy, to paint a picture that isn't even there.
fittingly, a little vague, but play the tracks and you should know what i mean ;)

i think 'sonar' is the word you're looking for
