Sound card for Mac mini?
View this Thread in Original format

Im having trouble running my virus and saffire 6 together through my mac mini as they share the same usb root hub. Basically I can only use one or the other so am fooked!!
The mini has a firewire port so I'm assuming going that route would would solve the conflicts I'm having??

I can get a saffire 14 cheap enough on ebay, and I don't really need the inputs its more for monitoring.

Don't really want to spend any more than £200, so any thoughts?

Cheers

You can use the Virus as a soundcard you know.

Access makes it clear that the Virus should never be run on a USB hub or you will have problems. I'd definitely consider going the FW route for the soundcard and use the USB port for direct connection to your Virus.

edit: or go with tehlord's suggestion^^^

Oh btw, Virus does not play well with USB3 if your Mac Mini is USB3 only.

It is yes :(

It has four usb3 ports on the back but I get the root hub error between the the virus and saffire no matter which ports I have them in.

As for using the virus as a sound card, can I just plug my monitors into the snows outputs?

Sorry I've only had both for a day and it's also my first mac so trying to get used to that from windows. Guess I should get the manual out.

Cheers guys sorted, I'm using the virus as the sound card outputting to my monitors..

So how bad is the virus supposed to be with usb3? Seems ok atm apart from the odd sync errors :conf:

Just ordered a saffire 14... Using the snow as a sound card reduces its output by half to just 2 stereo channels.

So firewire it is then:p
