Going to see this chap tomorrow night - anyone been to see him recently?? I know he is a Berghain resident, thats about it....

I've seen him twice this year. First time was NYE were came on after a terrible showing from Klock (bland tracks with a system so cranked up it physically hurt), it took him a while to find a good place but the second half was very enjoyable. It couldn't hold up to the ridiculous techno storm Patrick Gräser put on for the closing though. The second time was just last weekend actually although I didn't see much of his set, it was way too packed and a bit too loud for my taste. I heard it later got pretty good though.

In general, I don't know how to put this but I feel like Dettmann and Klock are a bit past their prime. Not that they still can't play good sets but the music they play is a lot more popular than it was five or six years ago and there are a lot of other, often younger DJs carrying the torch now. I think it's hard to stay cutting edge for any DJ when they have reached superstardom, playing arenas full of people only coming for them every weekend. Even at Berghain it's apparant, they always pack the place out and people freak out for the most banal that probably wouldn't even get a reaction if it was played by another DJ. I think most regulars have gone off the Dettmann/Klock hype a bit, especially since there's so much other DJ talent around the club.

Hounds were unleashed last night - dark and pounding techno, impressive Mr Dettmann...

Nice man. I'd rather see Dettmann than Klock at this point. Every time I click a video of Klock playing recently its ridiculously monotonous fast techno. Not inspired at all to to see him.
