Moving to Miami area later on this year...any SoCal transplants?

So I'm packing my bags and moving to Miami later on this year. I have a job recruiter friend that can pretty much guarantee me a job once I get there because of my experience.
I want to live in Miami for a bit, eventually moving to Mid Beach or South Beach by sometime next year.
I'm fluent in Spanish, which I know is pretty important. I have lots of friends there, but most are locals not transplants.
Anyone have any advice? What areas to avoid to live, what areas are good? Anyone from Southern Cali or the West Coast have any info to share?
Thanks in advance! |

This is general advice, but check out the 2010 census map to know the good/bad areas:

If you like to party, living in south beach is where you want to be. You probably know that the other party spot is close to Bayfront park in downtown. I am from Broward so I don't know much about living in places like coral gables or out west, but if you decide to live in Fort Lauderdale, downtown Hollywood is OK (but gets boring after a year or so) and then there's Las Olas and the Fort Lauderdale Beach strip (East Ft Lauderdale) on US1. |

Iv stayed almost everywhere on numerous trips down, south beach, brickell, financial district, wynwood ect
My fav place is wynwood. Real cool area, lots of art, cheap food and the people are a lot nicer around there. I stayed at the cynergi building last time I was down and loved it. I would love to live there. Lots of cool clubs/ spots like the electric pickle, cafiena, tsl lounge ect. Some area if wynwood are sketch but I personally never had any issues walking around at night as long as your on the main streets. If your worried the great state also has ccw laws so no need at all to worry. Iv felt more unsafe walking to whole foods at night in south beach than most areas in wynwoodAfter that I like the brickell area second. Lots of young people who are doing good but its a bit more snobby than wynwood. South beach I would personally never want to live unless your job is walking distance. Everything is over priced, parking Is impossible and everybody is a dick. |

Thanks for the input.
I'm not really going out there to party, done a lot in LA SD and Vegas for years. So staying in South Beach isn't something I really want to do unless I can get a place at a decent deal. But running the the beach and things like that would be real cool living on South Beach.
I'm open to moving even to Ft Laud area initially if I find a good deal on a place. I want to initially move into a room of a condo or house and just share a place until I have a job and enough to get something better. From what it seems on CL at least, is that it's just as expensive in Ft Laud than in some areas in Miami to rent out a room in a decent place. |

South Beach is a great place to live but you have to be picky about the location.
South of fifth or in a condo building west of west avenue are the best places to live in south beach (but could be expensive). |

So I moved from Miami to SoCal. Did you grow up in the West Coast/ SoCal?
If so, some adjusting will need to be done.
First you'll notice that real state is much cheaper over there. Areas that you want to live depends on the lifestyle that you'll like to pursue. If you want to stay on the trendy side with young professionals, then Brickell / Midtown are the good spots. If you like the party scene and NEED easy beach access, then South Beach has some nice (pricier) condos.
I lived in Aventura in the North Miami Beach area. You have everything you need there; mins from the beach, and you are half way between Ft. Laud and Miami. Ofcourse there are the more quiet areas the further north you go. If you like condos, then the beach side is where is at. I'll even try Sunny Isles ( Next to Aventura ) |

Yup.
Born and raised in San Diego.
I'm just excited for change and just a total different atmosphere.
Thanks for the input, I'm really looking forward to this even if it turns out to be a mess out there lol |
