What would an EDC/Ultra mainstage crowd do if..............

| Personally I think it would be awesome, but realistically I can see it being pretty split 50/50. Half the crowd would be confused and leave to another stage, the other half (possibly even less) would be down for it. Straight up trance (the uplifting/euphoric kind) of the 2000's is a pretty outdated style among the EDC/Ultra crowd at this point for 18-24 demo. I think proper house or techno would actually illicit a much better response than trance i.e. UMEK or Carl Cox playing big crowds @ EDC. I think a straight trance set would be similar to like Richie Hawtin @ EDC Mainstage last year - mixed reactions of WTF? and AWESOME. |

| The problem is most of the big trance DJ's have sold the genre out to get gigs at all the festivals. It's been long enough now that half the people don't even know what trance is. |

it's gotta be tough and a little disheartening to be a trance fan these days hahaha
i'm sure there are still plenty of guys keeping the genre alive to the fans |

Very disheartening. Luckily, my musical tastes are pretty diverse so I've focused a little more outside of the EDM world. |

i've resorted to listening to old markus and armin sets.
thankfully, with some digging, you can find a lot of sets from 2003-2006, so just been listening to those.
still listen to GJDB though, but even that i don't listen to as much. :( |

I enjoy listening to parts of old sets. I can't really listen to the whole thing anymore. The music can be a little "too" outdated for me.
Grant Plant was here a couple of weeks ago and did a throw back vinyl set. Although the party was fun, I was a little bored listening to the music. Recognizing the old tracks got old kind of quick.
That's the thing withe "edm". There are not a lot of tunes that I consider "timeless". I could be just talking out of my old jaded fart ass though. |

I dunno........
Gaia played at Ultra 2014 to a packed house with pure trance/tech trance. I hope as the kids get older fart noises, car alarms, and cheese vocals will grow old, and melodies and drums will take over:p |

Yeah I really liked the GAIA set but I have heard from industry people that were there that they thought the crowd was flat. And that's the problem. The people throwing festivals want the crowd to be going ape the whole time. It's funny because once you go down that path, you just see people waiting around for the next drop to kick their roll back in. They don't know what to do with themselves if they (drops) don't come. |
