Runner's World named the Trance 11 their Editor's Choice in the Spring Shoe Guide in their March 2012 issue. 26 out of 29 wear testers rated the Trance above average or better, including one who gushed "I felt as if I were running on clouds." Float on!

Oh god, those were so ugly.

Ooh, it's 'adaptable'.

you can't make this stuff up:

Live large with the luxurious ride of the Trance 12. This shoe has a taste for the finer technologies in life, like a Segmented Crash Pad that articulates the midsole for a perfectly smooth heel-to-toe transition. We moved the heel counter to the outside of the shoe for even more interior comfort, plus built-in bootie-like design for a silky feel. This shoe is so plush that, pretty soon, it will be on an episode of MTv® Cribs.

Buy a pair of flats or near flats, learn to run properly, profit.

That's because most of the people you see are joggers, who've drank the shoe marketing koolaid that tells them they should be spending $200 on the latest and greatest do-nothing trend.

Minimalist runners have been popular for years - turns out that über-cushioned-stabilised-anti-gravity shoes and conditioned heel-striking ("let's see, I think I'll learn to run in a way that's totally unnatural and that causes me to brake every time my foot hits the pavement") are actually pretty bad for your body.

I still have my original Saucony Kinvaras, which have a 4mm heel to toe drop - the mesh uppers are torn to rat, but they're so comfortable and lightweight that I can run for ages in them. A few years ago, I added a pair of New Balance Minimus MT10 for the trails, and I haven't looked back.

Q. What's the difference between a jogger and a runner?

A. When a jogger hits a red light, they bounce up and down in place. When a runner hits a red light, they stand there, looking pissed off.

You can learn to toe-strike without wearing flats or running barefoot, and you don't even have to turn into an insufferably self-congratulatory twat to do it.

It's actually impressive, how adept you are at projecting your own emotional detritus on to others.

Wake up on the wrong side of the concrete slab today?
