What do you prefere : Vocals or Not ?

This is a debate that I have had with a few of my friends who really dig trance songs that have female vocals. Personally as long as the tune doesn't have too much singing I don't mind it but there are some choons which are completely ruined when the vocals dominate the beats.
When I think of great Trance tunes I think of Synatheasia, Madagascar, 1999, XPander...etc and none of these songs had vocals and they were better of without them. There are exceptions of course like Ascensions - Someone which is a great tune. But these days I keep hearing a lot more vocals. Somehow I prefere trance sets without so much damn vocals, if I want that I go listen to house much or a rap CD :)
N E Way that's just my feeling, what does everyone else think ?
Also anyone who has heard DJ Tandu - Running will know how I feel when I say that a good track was ed up by some male vocals.... |

Hummmm I`d probably say I like vocals but not solely vocal based songs. For example, I like songs that bring vocals in at only certain times like Lost Tribe - Gamemaster or have continuous one line vocals like Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel.
Some other songs like this would be....
The Generator - Where are you now (moonman remake)
Silent Harmony - Save the Whales (George Acosta remake)
Solange - Messages |

| I agree with you completely. Songs like Gamemaster are really good with the vocals but of late I keep hearing songs that have pointless vocals in them. A few years ago there were far less songs with vocals in them and the one's that had vocals were of much better quality. Nowadays with the popularity of electronic music and particularly trance, wannabe producers think that they can make a trance song by adding a few cheesy ATB beats and having a women sing about love in the background....Angel is a great song cause the only vocals is "Angel,Angel" try listening to the bootleg version which has some diva crooning and you will realize why it was never released. :) |

Jan Johnston is unknown by me, but Sarah has a nice voice. That's not irritating.

| If it's somebody with a nice voice like Jan Johnston I like vocals! I think the Space Brothers "Shine" and "Forgiven" would just not be the same without the vocals! But if it's some whiney little bitch like that awful Maria Rubia I hate them, if you can even call that cheesy Fragma poop trance! |

I dunno dude, IMHO it would have been a lot better without the male vocals, which are really annoying. Then again maybe my taste in music isn't that good.

BT - Mercury and Solace (Now that's a tune where the vocals and the beats are perfect !!!) |

| I think that vocals can make the song sound crappy but it also can make the song sound great |

I can't say I prefer one over the other, but honestly a great female vocal in a track will give me shivers :D ... Just look at Saltwater, I still love that track just as much as when it came out...
Check out great male vocals in Amoebassassins - Piledriver (greyed out remix) .... Another one of my all time favorites. |
