'Party Monster' Michael Alig Released From Prison After 17 Years

I'm sure most of you have seen Party Monster. Well, the infamous "Club Kids co-founder"/drug dealer/murderer was released from prison today.

A cult figure for years, thanks in part to James St. James' Disco Bloodbath, a written account of the murder of Limelight employee Andre "Angel" Melendez, Alig's profile was further inflated when Macaulay Culkin played him in the 2003 movie Party Monster. This is part of the reason why people seemed to be tickled about the release of a man who killed a former friend of his with the help of Drano (in Alig's account, he injected Melendez with Drano; in co-killer Robert "Freeze" Riggs' account, Alig poured it down Melendez's throat).
Fabulousness, apparently, forgives a lot. It should be noted, though, that parole officers allegedly denied Alig parole in 2006 after watching Party Monster. (Riggs and Alig both pleaded guilty to manslaughter, and were convicted of it in the first degree. Their sentence was 10-20 years. Riggs was released in 2010.) |

Side note. Very interesting documentary called "Limelight" about Peter Gatien's rise and fall in New York nightlife. The documentary is by the same guy who did Cocaine Cowboys, Billy Corben. Also available on YouTube.

Limelight is also on Netflix!
Bf and I watched Party Monster a couple weeks ago, actually. Lol'ed so hard at the end, just before he kills him, when they're all cracked out and lose a rock on the floor, and a mouse grabs it... and McCauley is like "That rat's on the crack attack!"
Lololol we've been throwing that one around ever since. :stongue: |

I highly recommend the documentaries too. It's pretty ed how Alig can just laugh about the situation. |
