What are Nord keyboards like as MIDI controllers?

Im basically only using my JD800 as a controller these days so thinking of selling it on

Thinking of getting a synth rather than a midi controller and using that. I could sell my Nord Rack and get a Nord Lead 2 instead - would love a Nord 4 but not sure i can pony up that sort of cash, plus id like to keep the 2X for that sound

meh...maybe i should go for a Juno 60 or something instead, but no idea what they are like keybed wise - damn it :whip:
:p

A Ti 61 makes a fantastic controller if you can find one for a good price.

I don't like the Nord keybeds at all. They feel funky and cheap to me. I'm also pretty sure that the older Nord keyboards don't have aftertouch (if that's important to you) and no USB, so you'll need a MIDI interface if you don't have one. I like Geoff's recommendation for the Virus because of its killer Fatar keybed, but I see your point about too much VA redundancy. I believe that he was thinking that you could replace the Nord with a Virus, and I almost mentioned the same thing, but then noticed the part about you wanting to keep a NL2 in your lineup.

yeah ive tried the Virus Ti out before and sold it on - maybe sometime down the road i would go for a virus indigo but the nord and waldorf are covering me enough for VAs

i was thinking about getting a Q keyboard as they have even more knobs than the rack but they are rare and expensive

I had a Q keyboard for a few months (not mine, a friend needed me to store it for him during a move). It was a great synth and I cried for days when he finally took it back. I don't recall offhand whether or not it had USB, or anything about its MIDI implementation (e.g., sending CC's), but I do recall that the keybed was nice and it did have aftertouch.
