First EDM/Trance style song

Hey guys,
I've been producing for a while now and this is my first proper EDM track. Heavy influences from artists like Audien, NERVO and Vicetone. I have not yet attempted to master it or anything, still trying to get basic sounds right so please excuse the poor mixing!
I have been trying to recreate that 'huge' synth sound Audien uses with Sylenth1, here is a soloed section from my track:

Any advice on how to make the synths sound bigger and general comments or possible improvements for the whole track would be hugely appreciated! Thanks!

Like the melody here. In regards to making the sound bigger. Try duplicating the synth layer. Add as many voices and saws as you can to it, also make sure its layered with noise. Personally I find it really difficult to get big sounds out of sylenth. I could be wrong but I think you may have to get a hardware synth to get the sound on audiens level

Lost hawk you are deffinetely wrong. Getting that big sound is all about panning multiple similar synths and using stuff like s1 imager by waves and ozone by izotope to widen the stereo image. All absolutely possible with software synths.
Audien has gone on record even stating that he is all "in the box"
He uses no hardware synths, whatsoever. |

| Why would you need an addition VST to widen your synth? If you're using Sylenth set your four oscillators to 8 voices, detune each one and make sure the stereo dial is set anywhere from half way to full tilt. Thats as wide as it gets, since its covering the full stereo spectrum.. |

I thought it sounded fat enough though. But if you want it fatter, and you can't find a synth that make the deal - try combinating diffrent synths with each other. They could also be panned a little. But seriously if you got Sylenth, Nexus etc, there should be presets that's fat enough to work from. EQ is also a good thing, to make the synths stand out. And another important thing; make really fat chords! ;)
Though in your track, right after the solo - you got a really loud synth that makes your fat synth drown. Try cut out some freq from that one and put down the volume some db's and you'll get a much better balance. But in overall, a really nice song! Good job! |
