Coming to NY

Hey, all

Making my return to NYC after 2.5 years from June 11-18. So far I have tickets for Len Faki at Output and am thinking of doing the Blkmrkt party beforehand.

Does anyone have recommendations that I'm not seeing in the events log or on RA? I've already been to Cielo, Sullivan Room (RIP) and D36 (RIP) and would like to check out a new club I haven't been to yet. Sankeys would be nice, but only if the booking is decent. Are there are good after hours that my gf and I could check out after output closes?

Also, any new yorker recommendations for a couple of tourists during the day would be much appreciated to!

Thanks, guys!

Here's what my itinerary would look like:
June 12: Moon Boots and Plastic Plates at Verboten
June 13: Lee Foss and Scarlett Etienne at Output
June 14: Cityfox. I'm not sure how big of a Len fan you are but if you can, sell those tickets and go to Cityfox. It's the closest thing we'll get to a Robot Heart party until Halloween.
June 15: Mister Sunday
NOTE: You will be here for the Northside Festival. It's gotten much bigger in the last couple of years and attracts some good acts. Also ripe for dope after hours partying. Also BangOn! may throw a party and those are pretty fun.

Breakdown of BK Clubs: Verboten is a better club than Output. Output has a better sound system, but just barely, and the crowd isn't nearly as fun. Drinks are slightly cheaper at Verboten. TBA doesn't even register. I think a lot of people don't realize that place exists. Went to go see Gavin Russom the other day and it was empty. Bailed for the Susanne Bartsch party very quickly. Glasslands is a very awesome, small spot. The Wick is new, I haven't been but hear it's pretty good. The Knockdown Center is also a cool space. Perfect for outdoor stuff.

Hope this helps fellow spaceman

One more note: ReSolute parties go until VERY late. BUT, those parties tend to attract a sordid group. Professionally speaking, I've worked with them in the past and they are fairly unorganized and mean-spirited.

Sorry last note! Check out Bossa Nova Civic Club. Hands down the best dance parties going on in Bushwick. If you stick around until the end, you WILL get an after hours address. Jay the doorman is the man to speak to. This place is dope Thurs-Sat.

I dunno if Verboten is a better club. In warm weather, I give Output the edge with their rooftop.

On another note. I was just recently in London. Had a chance to visit Fabric. Completely blows away Output and Verboten.

On sound I'd disagree, in that it's only barely better at Output.
At Verboten, with those speakers left and right of stage, it's fairly beamy, ie, if you're just slightly off-axis to the right (or left) there is a noticealbe difference versus directly on-axis / in between both.

Crowd difference seems more music-driven than club driven to me.

As to the rooms, not bad at Verboten indeed, but I don't like the back-entry format vs. side-entry, because even when it thins out, opening up floor space towards the back, you don't get undisturbed space, cause of the constant traffic, even then.
Best in this regard is actually Sankey's, because while they have the doors in the back, they close them at the end and route you out the back side door.
All the space in front of that back wall-of-doors opens up when it thins out.

But my main gripe at Verboten is the smoke area out front. Drinks seized, no warning, club personnel in civilian garb policing there, very uncool.
Yes, they have to do this not to endanger their license, i know, but that's the problem when you don't provide a private smoke area, like at Output.
A decent and useable outside retreat is worth A LOT, and the street ramp at V. is a joke compared to Output roof (if they'd only open it more, the little chicken coop during spring sucked)

yeah, was there on a Wednesday in Feb, music was good, but not many people there.
It is strange, because they do a good job with their bookings, and have been to some nice events there.

Gavin Russom is pretty awesome, and what you describe is a shame for it all the more. I'd have gone if around, but what buzz kill.
Strange too, because when The Crystal Ark was at Baby's All Right, it was packed.
And Nurvous can get people in too.
Maybe just a combination of Detroit and the EDM festis thinning things out.

Couldn't speak to the way ReSolute operates, maybe that's a Greek thing?
But I totally can't confirm what you say about the people going.
I've been to a lot of their events, with Blk or solo, and it never felt sordid.
It does tend to be a less lower-20-something crowd, and def. more European, but seems to me mainly due to the bookings.
At the recent label party (yeah, behind the U-haul) that got shut down, the crowd was ok, the space there was a bit small.
And, no pat-down bull, if you want to step out, no problem, that makes up for a lot too.

Did you check out Oval Space?
Next time there, gonna check out Fabric.
MoS last time was a disappointment, the London Pacha

Nah, wanted to check out there and Egg but didn't have the time. Went to We Are FSTVL which was the best festival I've ever been to.

But I can see why Fabric is constantly voted one of the best clubs in the world. Security is a little tight getting in (worst pat down in my life), but they seem to be pretty cool inside.

MoS even has walk-through metal detectors...

Oval is cool, nothing...

Couldn't agree more with this. Output clearly has the advantage when you consider both the roof and the "chicken coop" between Output and the Panther Room. The Verboten ramp is too small to accommodate everyone and you can't take your drinks outside.

On another note, I'd also check out the Beef Cuts parties too. They usually put together a very nice after hours set. They aren't as frequent as ReSolute but certainly worthwhile.

The standalone ReSolute parties can be fun. They did a boat party with Bob Moses and a rooftop Art Gallery/Party last summer which were quite fun. But ever since their pseudo-merger with Output, things feel a bit different. Everything is about money - not as much chill-here-to-party vibe anymore. Perhaps I'm just being a sensitive spoiled brat ha!

Final Last Note for OP: I'm, not sure when your flight is on June 18th, but Morning Gloryville is going on that morning. It's BK's take on London's Morning Glory breakfast raves - sober, drug-free, morning dance party where you can get juices and such.
