Hell yeah, if your heart's into this, go for it. This is one of those situations where you just need to say other people's opinions and just do it. Welcome to the new TA - you can rest assured that most ideas will be pissed on here, but you just need to take it all in context and look at the creds of people who are giving you advice.
There are a few guys here, like Storyteller and tehlord, who have experience starting a label. Despite their responses above, they'd be a good source of advice, but I suspect that you'll get better info from them through PMs than you will in an incoherent thread with other TA members throwing at your idea. But, those two alone can probably give you some insight on the process and pitfalls of starting a label (don't let me down now, guys! :p)
Also, you might want to consider posting this on the gearslutz Electronic subforum. Yeah, your idea will probably get on there as well, but it's a much larger audience and there a lot of guys there who are very nostalgic for the 90s trance. Some pretty big names post and lurk there, so you might even make a connection or two with some artists of interest.

Im currently contacting a bunch of "old" trance producers to drag them back from the dead, Kai Tracid, Perry O Neil, DJ Fire, David West (Antiloop), Probspot, Salamander, Christian West, Union Jack & so on..

That sounds like a great start. You should be able to gauge interest from their responses and that should give you a reality check. Anyway, good luck with it. Hope you can find some help with the graphics/website. |

Hardest for me is to get artists reeled in and to set up a solid release schedule/artist roster. Artists need plenty of convincing. Setting up a label is rather easy. I'm somewhat ambitious and have spent a lot of time on the technical side of things. I've got a 7 page contract, a proper website in the making as well as an entire backend application built into it. If only I was getting paid for all that then I could've taken a holiday for the rest of the year already. Proper preparation is quite intense, but that really depends on where you set the bar. You can have it all set up within a day. Soundcloud+twitter+facebook+youtube+logo+distributor and your chain is all set up. |

My advice would be to just be careful with the stuff you choose to re-release. You might run into an label here and there. As for the digital distribution, sorry bud, you can't put stuff on Beatport and the like and have it available for free. You're going to need to charge money. I have noticed Amsterdam Trance Classics is doing the same thing right now, and charging money for it, so it's not such a rare occurrence but like I said, be very careful.

I'd stick away from anything owned by Armada...but then again anything released by the jackoffs over there doesn't need a re-release anyways.:haha:
If you hear from David West, let me know how he's doing. I miss his tunes. |

This probably doesn't help much, but I did hear a remix of Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone with some rap lyrics and transformation in a taxi last night. I don't think the sound died, but I suggest doing your research about the interest and feasibility instead of jumping right into a label.
I do agree with the " it" posts: if you have the passion to pursue it, and don't have unrealistic expectations, good music always has its place.
I didn't care for the Alice Deejay remix, I thought the original was better. That was a bit before my time, and I like my rap with an MPC and some stories, but that's another topic. Worse thing that can happen is you fail and learn from it. |

I think what you're talking about is that godawful David Guetta song where he shamelessly jacked the melody.
The "classic sound" is usually going to be the most popular to those who know it, but the reason it's not big anymore is because it stopped getting exposure. It's really all a matter of giving it the spotlight again. It's always the oldschool stuff that makes people go nuts at clubs anyways, not this goofy overprocessed slow electro crap. |

| if you made it your goal to seek out all the lost tracks that were made, that would be cool. But ya , that would be real expensive. I thought you wanted to bring back that time you first did e and got a reach around. |
