One of my absolute favourites is the obscure and unused original score to Hellraiser, by Coil:
As legend has it, Clive Barker himself commissioned Coil to score the film. But the studio suits were so nauseated by the end product because it was so perfectly creepy, they opted to go with Christopher Young in commercial interest of the film. |
I had absolutely no idea this thing existed. It certainly tones down the mega-Hollywood stature associated with the one that would eventually be used, and reminds me a lot of the similar, understatedly eerie soundtrack Mark Isham composed for 'The Hitcher:'

There was virtually nothing to enjoy about the reboot to this franchise, and the fact that we've yet to see a sequel to said reboot leads me to believe that even the studio behind it accepts it as an utterly abysmal botch job. But Steve Jabonsky's refreshed score almost makes the whole endeavor worth it, and falls squarely within the category of 'composers whose talents exceed the films in which they were used.' Really quite exquisite:

As much I loved the score, to the extent it being one of my all-time favorites, I never felt it was an appropriate fit for the actual film itself. The ominous droning and howling- while making for terrific standalone pieces- just didn't feel like they properly paired with what was unfolding on screen, and ultimately felt as though it made for a better 'Ghosts V' than it did for a soundtrack to 'The Social Network.' |

Nice call. I would later discover that Hermann & Kleine's 'Leaving You Behind (Without Knowing Where to Go) was actually a remix of Heat's title theme.

Horner who I guess you would know from everyone's fav titanic but made thst shakuhachi the defector sound when in a jungle amd things are tense and you need a sound to expres something is up. Bammmm. Like in the 80s .
Mostly entirely synths. 80s toms that Zimmer started using in the rock which is snother cool soundtrack . |

| well i didn't mention that one because , doesn't have the steel pan drums, was 5 years later and no not really the same score. Stylistically similar but that is like saying everything with an orchestra is the same which is generally true lately. |

| Horner does have a tendency to recycle his music. I kinda suspect he used up almost all his early ace material with Wrath Of Khan before settling into standard stuff later in the '80s. Probably figured doing a Star Trek film was going to be his only big score, so let it all hang out there. |
