Technics 1210 - uneven balance output

Hi guys, I have re-activated my Mk2s after quite a while. Got a new set of Concorde E's and have the following problem:

One turntable puts out a signal that is much louder on the right channel than on the left. I could of course adjust this with the EQ on the mixer but I believe there must be some other reason.

Is there a way to adjust the tone-arm / needle position to correct this uneven balance output?

Thanks for any advice!

might be the RCA connection, ran into that problem quite a few times. Had to default to playing in mono with the gain way up to compensate

lotta tracks sounded like in mono :/

that sounded strangely sexual and drug related

Most likely this, though you may want to apply some contact cleaner to the cart mount on the tonearm.

Could be one of several things:

1st: lug the deck in to another channel on the mixer and see if you get the same problem. This will instantly tell you if this is an issue with the mixer or the turntable.

2nd: swap needles once you have cleaned the socket as you may well have a faulty stylus. This again will narrow it down if the deck itself has the problem etc.

3rd: Do as PT said - spray some switch cleaner or contact cleaner in to the tonearm connector (where the headshell/concorde screws in to). Use a q-tip/cotton bud to clear away any debris. If you don't have switch cleaner then you can also use rubbing alcohol or even a high alchohol content fragrance/cologne/aftershave on a cotton bud.

4th: Clean the rca/phono connectors on your cables. Both the center pin and the inside of the ring.

5th: one of the solder joints may have gone within the tonearm, but you don't want to get in to this unless you have ruled out everything else.

I can give you step by step (I'm a technics qualified service engineer) but you don't want to go there unless you are quite good at soldering (the solders are tiny) and have either a spare tonearm assembly or at least some very fine insulated wire if you want to try to replace the line etc.
